Adam Schefter Has an Update on the Eagles’ Head Coaching Job

It’s been a slow few days on the rumor mill for the Eagles’ head coaching vacancy. Up until now, that is. Adam Schefter just dropped an update this morning to get our minds running on overdrive again, and salivating for new information.

I don’t know that Pederson’s the frontrunner. I know that he’s square in contention for that job. I know they really like him. In my mind, my sense, these are just senses, is that Ben McAdoo is the frontrunner. But I don’t know that to be right. I think Pederson and McAdoo both are square in the conversation.”

That came off as very odd. I think this, but it could totally be that… I don’t think I’m wrong, but I could totally be wrong. I honestly still think that Pederson is the frontrunner. After speaking with someone from Kansas City this weekend, I learned some things about Pederson that I never knew before, and actually became more excited about the prospect of him, but more on that in another post to come.

So, what else did Schefter have to say?

I think Tom Coughlin’s interview went well. You can’t meet with him and not be impressed by the coach, and man, he is. But ultimately, as good and as impressive as he is, I just think the Eagles’ model here is to find someone that they can work with for the next 10-15 years and I don’t think Tom Coughlin fits that description, as good of a coach as he is. Maybe even Pat Shurmur would be in consideration because he is a very good football coach. But to me, I would handicap McAdoo as the favorite, for whatever that’s worth, and we’ll see if that’s proven right.”

What the hell, Schefter!? Can you make any informative statement with knowledge, and not everything be a wishy-washy “That’s just my feeling,” or, “We’ll see if I’m proven right” bullshit? Schefter just may be proven wrong, anyway. Here is audio from this morning’s Boomer & Carton show out of WFAN in New York as they talked about McAdoo (4:30 mark).

So there it is, Schefter has a feeling and so does Carton. Schefter thinks McAdoo is the lead candidate for the Eagles’ position. Maybe. Sort of. Carton thinks McAdoo is the next coach of the Giants.

At this point I’m just ready for a decision so we can move on to discussing our future with solidified information. I also want the decision to be made so that we aren’t scraping the bottom of the barrel for top coordinators and position coaches. Make it happen, Lurie.
