Robert Durst Pleads Guilty to Gun Charges

While Making A Murderer convinced audience viewers of Steven Avery’s innocence, the HBO series The Jinx did the exact opposite when profiling the multiple alleged murders committed by Robert Durst.  It was confirmed as of this morning that Durst has pled guilty to a gun charge made against him last year.

The Jinx, featuring the deaths of Kathleen McCormack and Susan Berman, includes interviews with Durst conducted by the filmmakers of the series.  McCormack, Durst’s former wife, was last seen in January 1982.  In 2000, Westchester County investigators reopened their investigation of her disappearance, which at that time was still ruled a missing persons case.  Without any body found, she was declared dead the following year.  As of last November, Kathleen’s 101-year-old mother-in-law and three sisters are using a state law on burial rights to sue Durst for $100 million.

Susan Berman, the daughter of a Jewish gangster, was said to be a close friend to Durst.  Berman was murdered shortly after she had a discussion with Durst claiming the authorities wanted to interview her.  Investigators believe she knew Durst’s secrets.  The case continues to be an open investigation.

Durst was arrested last March on a gun possession charge.  His arrest coincidentally came the day before the final episode of The Jinx aired on HBO.

The series finale featured the filmmakers confronting Mr. Durst with strong similarities between the handwriting on a letter he sent to Berman and on a note the police received after her killing, notifying them to the existence of a “cadaver.”

While on a break during an interview, Durst was recorded talking to himself: “There it is, you’re caught….What the hell did I do?  Killed them all, of course.”

After Durst’s arraignment, he will be transferred to a federal prison in Los Angeles where he will face possible murder charges in the case of Susan Berman.
