What’s Happening in Philly This Weekend: July 14-16

Each weekend, we will post some of the most unique social and culture places to visit in addition to exciting events in and around the Philly area. We call it Philly Influencer’s Weekend Picks. Events Running Through the Weekend

1. Founder’s Weekend at Longwood Gardens

Where: Longwood Gardens, 1001 Longwood Rd. Kennett Square, PA
When: Thursday, July 13th-Saturday, July 15th

It’s Founders Weekend at Longwood Gardens. To commemorate the occasion the grounds will be premiering the “Flowing Water”. The project is a documentary that outlines Mr. Du Pont’s creative effort to craft the Main Fountain Garden at the beautiful location. There will be behind the scenes glimpses into the garden and activities all weekend.

2. University City Dining Days

Where: Various locations
When: Thursday, July 13th-Sunday, July 23rd

The 13th year of the University City Dining Days begin this week and will run through the following seven days. There will be multiple restaurants and eateries providing pre-fixe three-course meals for $15, $25, or $35. From craft beer locations to great BYOB spots, all of the best restaurants will be open for your choosing.

3. BalletX Summer Series

Where: Prince Theater, 1412 Chestnut St.
When: runs through Sunday, July 16th

Philadelphia top contemporary ballet will be doing six performances through the weekend. The Summer Series 2017 will have innovative dance performances, showcase tremendous talent, and have immensely detailed choreography. Come see these skilled individuals display their amazing work at this Center City theater.

4. Secret Life of Pets at Bartram’s Garden

Where: Bartram’s Garden, 54th St and Lindeberg Blvd.
When: Friday, July 14th, 8:30PM

The glorious weather summertime provides allows for so many cool events like this one. This Friday there will be an outdoor screening of the film Secret Life of Pets at Bartram’s Garden. You can bring a blanket and your family to this joyous gathering. There will be complimentary popcorn and lemonade at this free admission event.

5. Joe DeRosa


Where: Punch Line Philly, 33 E. Laurel St.
When: Friday July 14th, 8PM & 10:15PM and Saturday, July 15th, 7:30PM & 9:45PM

Joe DeRosa is an actor, writer, and standup comedian. He’ll be hosted by Punch Line Philly this weekend. Whether it’s on Netflix’s Wet Hot American Summer, his recurring role on Better Call Saul, or his spots on Chelsea Lately, DeRosa’s niche for brutal honesty and humorous ways always shines through.

6. Bastille Day


Where: Eastern State Penitentiary, 2027 Fairmount Ave.
When: Saturday, July 15th, 5:30PM-7PM

This yearly Bastille Day celebration is one of the craziest and entertaining outdoor festivals in the city. In its 23rd year, this event will have a storming of the Bastille reenactment, impersonators, a 6-foot-tall baguette, games, performances, and more. This is hands down one of the wildest events in the city each year.

7. Diamond Street Festival

Where: From 16th and Diamond to 18th and Diamond.
When: Saturday, July 15th, 12PM-6PM

The Diamond Street Festival will have live music, performers, vendors, and more. The community support and outreach event will have something for your entire family. There will be games, standup comedy, water ice, free food, and much more at this wonderful gathering linking various people in the neighborhood.

8. Clark Park Music Festival


Where: Saturday, July 15th, 11AM-7PM
When: Clark Park, 43rd St. & Baltimore Ave.

Clark Park will be putting local artists and vendors on display this weekend. There will be food trucks, live performances, and more at this summer celebration. This event is free to the public and will feature The Dead Milkmen and West Philadelphia Orchestra.

9. Lancaster Avenue Jazz & Arts Festival


Where: Saunders Park Greene, 39th & Powelton St.
When: Saturday, July 15th, 12PM-7PM

The 11th Annual Lancaster Avenue Jazz & Arts Festival is this Saturday. This weekend’s festivities will highlight the “New Wave of Jazz.” There will be several musicians performing, food, dance ensembles and so much more at this family-friendly event. 10. Summerfest Live!


Where: XFINITY Live!, 1100 Pattison Ave.
When: Saturday, July 15th, 3PM

This event is one of the four rotational and seasonal craft beer festivals that XFINITY Live! routinely hosts. There will be over 175 beers to sample from more than 75 breweries. The day will be filled with music by DJs and great bands. There will also be food trucks, prizes, and giveaways.

11. Lupe Fiasco 


Where: Electric Factory, 421 N. 7th St.
When: Saturday, July 15th, 8:30PM

Rappers and hip hop act Lupe Fiasco will be perfuming at the Electric Factory this Saturday night. The opening act for this event will be Daylyt and Dayne Jordan. Fiasco released his latest album Drogas Light earlier this year. He’ll be releasing a followup Drogas:Wave shortly.

12. Zac Brown Band


Where: BB&T Pavilion, 1 Harbour Blvd. Camden, NJ
When: Saturday, July 15th, 8PM

Atlanta country music band Zac Brown Band will be performing at the BB&T Pavillon this weekend. Owners of six studio albums, this Grammy award-winning band dropped their latest project Welcome Home in May. Come hear the “Keep My in Mind” singers at this amazing outdoor venue.

13. Reggae In The Park


Where: The Mann Center, 5201 Parkside Ave.
When: Sunday, July 16th, 1PM-11PM

Speaking of outdoor venues, one of the best in the area is The Mann Center. The 5th Annual Reggae in the Park celebration is this Sunday. The lineup to this musical jam session will include Ziggy Marley, Beers Hammond, Sizzla, Capleton, and many other acts. Good vibes and great energy will be in abundance at this event.

14. Beard Fest 2

Where: The Schmidt’s Commons, 1001 N. 2nd St.
When: Sunday, July 16th, 1PM-7PM

The Schmidt’s Commons will be hosting its 2nd Philadelphia Beard Festival this weekend. The battle for the best beard in the city is this Sunday. General admission is $15. There will be drinks, prizes, contests, a beer garden, a whiskey tasting, a date auction, grooming displays, and more.

15. Bring It Live Tour


Where: Merriam Theater, 250 S. Broad St.
When: Sunday, July 16th, 3PM & 7PM

One day you’re dancing and performing on your very own Lifetime reality TV series and the next you’re performing before thousands. This is the life of the cast from Bring It. The dance group will be hitting the floor at the Wells Fargo Center this Sunday for two exclusive and high-energy performances.

16. Nuevofest

Where: FringeArts, 140 N. Columbus Blvd.
When: Sunday, July 16th, 2PM

FringeArts will be hosting Neuvofest this weekend. Brought to you by Latin Roots Live! this wonderful event will highlight the blazing and thrilling sounds of Latin American music. In its fifth year, this festival will have multiple performances from artists centering around the plethora of  talent that Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries provide.

17. Idina Menzel


Where: BB&T Pavilion, 1 Harbour Blvd. Camden, NJ
When: Sunday, July 16th, 8PM-10PM

Broadway sensation and phenomenal vocalist Idina Menzel will be bringing her amazing talent to the Camden Waterfront this Sunday. From her breathtaking performance in Rent to her run on the musical sensation Wicked, this act is no stranger to enchanting and captivating audiences.

18. Silent Brunch at Flying Fish Crafthouse


Where: Flying Fish Crafthouse, 1363 N. 31st St.
When: Sunday, July 16th, 12PM-6PM

Silent Philly will be hosting a brunch midday at Flying Fish Crafthouse this Sunday. The colorful headphone filled party will have DJs spinning Top 40, hip hop and reggae, and music from several generations. There will be drink specials including bottomless mimosas and a meal included.

19. Big 3 Basketball


Where: Wells Fargo Center, 3601 S. Broad St.
When: Sunday, July 16th, 6PM

We’ve all seen the highlights and cutups on ESPN and various media outlets over the past few weeks. Big 3 Basketball is making its way to Philadelphia and the Wells Fargo Center this Sunday. Come see Allen Iverson, Mike Bibby, Jermaine O’Neal, Kenyon Martin, and so many more NBA veterans at this fresh and new sporting league event.
