Ben Simmons and Sixers agree on a 5-year, $170 million extension

Shams Charania from The Athletic dropped a bomb on social media today when he reported that the much-anticipated Ben Simmons deal was done. Simmons and his agent Rich Paul agreed to a five-year, $170 million extension. The max extension will have Simmons under contract through the 2024-2025 season.

Simmons made his first All-Star team last season. He averaged 16.9 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 7.7 assists per game. The only other players to average 16-8-7 last year were Russell Westbrook, LeBron James, and Nikola Jokic. The 2016 No. 1 overall draft pick was entering the final year of his rookie deal and was set to make $8.1 million in 2019-20.

This deal solidifies Embiid, Simmons, Horford, and Harris as the 76ers core for the next four years.
