What’s happening in Philly this weekend: Oct. 11-13

1. Closing Soon: DesignPhiladelphia

Now over a decade old, DesignPhiladelphia has become one of the largest design festivals in the country. The showcase celebrates the historic role of design in the region while displaying the innovation yet to come. Stop by many of the various events this weekend before it’s too late.

2. LGBT History Month

When: Runs through Thursday, October 31st

October is LGBT History Month across the country. Philadelphia will be hosting several events over the next few weeks. This weekend, head to The Rosenbach for a special reading of Moby Dick-The Queerest Book You’ve Ever Read and cocktails this Friday. Aids Fund Philly will be hosting a  GayBINGO event this Saturday. The Hocus Pocus-themed event will feature musical numbers, hilarious drag queen antics,  fabulous prizes, and more.

3. Philadelphia Open Studio Tours

Where: Various locations

When: Runs through Sunday, October 20

Each year several participating studios in the city open their doors and give the public a glimpse into their halls. Open Studio Tour allows many curious souls and art lovers to peruse creators in their habitat. You’ll be able to see them in their spaces painting, sculpting, sketching, and more. Finished work and gallery pieces will also be on display.

4. Rittenhouse Square Fine Craft Fair

Where: Rittenhouse Square | 18th St & Walnut St

When: Runs through Sunday, October 13

The Rittenhouse Square Fine Craft Fair will be taking over this weekend. The rotating outdoor art collective will be one of the most collaborative events in the city. Come see all the tremendously gifted artists as they display their work across several mediums.

5. House of Vans

When: Runs through Sunday, October 13

Vans will be hosting a skate, music, arts, an entertainment blowout this week. There will be several fun events popping up all over the city for free.  Philly rapper Tierra Whack and other curated DJs will be performing. Come see the massive murals, partake in the skating sessions, and an indoor skate park.

6. Fright Factory

The Halloween season is in full swing! The Fright Factory has been one of the main attractions to inject instant horror and terror into your veins. Come to this structure with your friends and family for the scare of your life now through the end of the month.

7. Octoberfest at Dilworth Park

Dilworth Park is always buzzing with live music, food, fountains, events, and excitement. This weekend, the park will be hosting an Octoberfest celebration. Come out for the drinks, games, brews, activities, cuisine, and fun.

8. Made in Philadelphia Fall Market

When: Runs through Sunday, October 13

The Made in Philadelphia Fall Market will be kicking off this Friday. Similar to the Rittenhouse Fine Crafts Market, this vendor extravaganza will have everything from jewelry, crafts, art,  and home furnishes all up for sale around City Hall.

9. Don Quixote at the Academy of Music

When: Runs through Sunday, October 13

Philadelphia is a great city for arts and performers. The Academy of Music will be to place to be as the Pennsylvania Ballet’s production of Don Quixote will be illuminating the stage throughout the weekend. This Spanish tale of adventure and love will be brought to life by great performers at this wondrous location. This is an enchanting ballet that you don’t want to miss.

10. Friday Remix at the Philadelphia Museum of Art

Where: Philadelphia Museum of Art | 2600 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy

When: Friday, October 11 | 6 p.m.-10 p.m.

The Philadelphia Museum of Art will be introducing a new attraction to its prestigious halls this weekend. Friday Remix features local performers each week. The museum takeover will have music acts, t-shirt makers, poets, a dance party, and more.

11. Barnes Jawn(t)s

When: Friday, October 11 | 6 p.m.-9 p.m.

The Barnes Foundation will be bringing back Jawn(t)s this Friday night, This unique and choose-your-own-adventure style of museum tour is exhilarating. There are six guides ( artists, community leaders, and performers), each offering two 45-minute tours.

12. Good Good Comedy Theatre Weekend 

ALBUM RECORDING: Good Good presents Samantha Ruddy (The Late Show, Comedy Central)

Where: Good Good Comedy Theatre | 215 N 11th St

When: Runs through Sunday, October 13

Inserting laughs and humor into your day is never a bad thing. When you can sustain it all weekend, it’s the best thing ever. Good Good Comedy Theatre has exciting and hilarious entertainers on stage each day. Stop by the laugh house to see Samantha Ruddy and Catherine Cohen in the next few days.

13. Bilal

City Winery, Philadelphia’s newest music venue, restaurant, wine bar, and winery will be hosting R&B singer Bilal this Friday night. The g Kendrick Lamar, Common, Erykah Badu, Jay-Z, and  Beyoncé collaborator has signature vocals. Come see the Grammy-winning talent this weekend.

14. Eric Church 

Eric Church: Double Down Tour

Where: Wells Fargo Center |  3601 S. Broad St

When: Friday, October 11 & Saturday, October 12

Speaking of musical talent, country music singer-songwriter Eric Church will be performing at the Wells Fargo Center this Friday and Saturday. The CMA and ACM award-winner is a chart-topping powerhouse. The country music fans will be out in droves to see this talented performer.

15. Philly Trans March

When: Saturday, October 12 | 1-4 p.m.

The Philly Trans March will be at Malcolm X Park this Saturday afternoon. The annual march annual protests against the hate, social injustice, and inequity faced by the trans community. There will be speeches and more at this community event.

16. FLOW at Independence Seaport Museum

Where: Independence Seaport Museum | 211 S. Christopher Columbus Blvd

When: Runs through Saturday, December 7

Head over to the Independence Seaport Museum for Flow. The institution is excited to present this amazing collaboration with local sculptors. The exhibit features imaginative floating art installations and creative pieces made “from plastic water jugs, bamboo poles, living plants, and other exotic materials, some rescued from the banks of the Delaware River”.

17. Indigenous Peoples’ Weekend

The Museum of the American Revolution will be celebrating Indigenous People Weekend for the next few days. Come hear about the of the Oneida Indian Nation brought and its people, brought to life through discussions and arts. Penn Treaty Park will be hosting a  day that honors the Lenape Tribe. Bartram’s Garden will be celebrating as well this Monday for its 9th annual festival.

18. Black Magic

When: Runs through Saturday, November 30

The Philadelphia Photo Arts Gallery, in conjunction with Icebox Project Space and New York Live Arts presents interdisciplinary artist Rashaad Newsome’s multipart project, Black Magic.  Black Magic is a holistic reflection on agency, Blackness, and the futurity of intersectional identities and oppression. This immersive exhibit will be open through next month.

19. Comic Con for Kids

Comic Con for Kids will be filling the Greater Expo Center this weekend. This one-of-a-kind family-friendly event celebrates pop culture, social media celebrities, gaming, cosplay, comics, and tech. This will be a great event for the entire family.

20. Memphis vs. Temple

The Temple University Owls will be taking on the #23 Memphis Tiger (5-0) this Saturday at Lincoln Financial Field. The 4-1 program will be ready for the challenge of their American Athletic Conference foes in this juggernaut matchup. Come out and cheer on this team that has been flawless in conference play.

21. Conshohocken Beer Festival

The Conshohocken Beer Festival is this Saturday at A. A. Garthwaite Stadium. There will be over 50 local vendors on location peddling the best regional and national craft beers. There will also be plenty of food vendors, games, activities, live music, and more at this massive gathering.

22. Philadelphia Wing Festival

Philadelphia Wing Festival

Where: 2300 Arena | 2300 S. Swanson St

When: Saturday, October 12 | 2 p.m.- 7 p.m.

2300 Arena will be hosting the 2019 Philly Wing Fest this Saturday. There will be 20+ wings & food vendors, an ax-throwing expo, entertainment stages, carnival games, a beer garden, and so much more at this family and fun-filled event.

23. Philadelphia International Unity Cup Championship

24. Old City Fest

The always popular Old City Festival is this Sunday. Old City District will be swimming with the masses as they come out to eat, shop and browse the stocks of local vendors and stores, watcha fashion show, and admire the musical performances. 25. Outfest

Philly Pride will be on full display this Sunday at Outfest 2019. In its 29th year, the event will have vendors and several local restaurants participating in the Gayborhood area. Last year thousands came out to see the 160+ organizational display to celebrate National Coming Out Day.

26. Sippin’ By The River

Sippin' By The River 2019

Where: Manayunk Brewing Company |  4120 Main St

When: Sunday, October 13 | 12:30 p.m. – 5 p.m.

In its 26th year, the Sippin’ By the River returns to Manayunk Brewery. Come sample over 30 wines, ciders, and craft beers. There will be live entertainment, games and prizes, and more. The traditional grape stomping contest is also back this year.

27. Ray LaMontagne

Ray LaMontagne

Where: The Met Philadelphia |  858 N. Broad St.

When: Sunday, October 13 | 7:30  p.m.

Singer-songwriter Ray LaMontagne will be playing at The Met Philadelphia this Sunday. The Grammy winner released his seventh studio album, Part of the Light, last year. Come to the newly renovated theater to hear this unique and talented performer.
