Four hours and 32 picks later, the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft is in the books.
Mostly every NFL team made a pick in Thursday’s first round, bolstering their roster for the 2020 season. Defending National Champions and Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow went No. 1 overall to the Cincinnati Bengals, looking to take over for Andy Dalton.
Burrow became the second modern-day quarterback since Cam Newton to win the National Championship, Heisman, and become the No. 1 overall pick all in the same season.
The Miami Dolphins made a trio of selections in the first round, ultimately adding help to three different positions. University of Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was selected No. 5 overall by Brian Flores’ team, while also adding USC offensive lineman Austin Jackson and Auburn defensive back Noah Igbinoghene.
Isaiah Simmons was one of the major steals in the first ten picks, being selected by the Arizona Cardinals at No. 8. Simmons, a National Champions with Clemson University in 2018, will likely fill in at linebacker for Cliff Kingsbury’s team.
The SEC dominated the first round with a new NFL Draft record, 15 players being chosen in the first 32 picks. Alabama wide receivers Henry Ruggs III and Jerry Jeudy, LSU linebacker Patrick Queen, and wide receiver Justin Jefferson also heard their names called in Thursday’s action.
