Alain Vigneault’s hiring by the Philadelphia Flyers was a step in the right direction for the franchise. On Wednesday, it was just further confirmation that the veteran head coach’s introduction to Philly was the right move for the team.

Vigneault has been named one of three finalists for the Jack Adams Award, selected in a poll by the NHL Broadcasters’ Association “to the NHL coach adjudged to have contributed the most to his team’s success,” the team announced Wednesday. AV joins Boston Bruins’ head coach Bruce Cassidy and Columbus Blue Jackets manager John Tortorella as the three finalists for the award.

This is the fifth time in Vigneault’s career that he has been named a finalist, which is an NHL record. He previously won the award in the 2006-07′ season after helping the Vancouver Canucks to a 49-26-7 record in his first season as head coach there.

Vigneault also finished as a finalist in 2000 with the Montreal Canadiens, both 2007 and 2011 with Vancouver, and 2014-15′ with the New York Rangers. Should he win the award, Vigneault would be the fifth Flyers head coach to win it, joining Bill Barber, Mike Keenan, Pat Quinn, and Fred Shero.

In his first full season as Flyers head coach, Vigneault has led the team to a fourth-place Eastern Conference finish in the shortened regular season. The team finished with 89 points from 69 games, seven points better than their 2018-19′ haul in total.

The Flyers also registered 25 home wins during the regular season, the most by any NHL team. In addition, the team posted a 19-6-1 record since Jan. 8th which was tied for the best record in the NHL since that point.

Vigneault and the Flyers will be back in action on Aug. 2nd against the Boston Bruins in the first match of their three-game round-robin tournament to determine playoff seeding.
