Eagles-Lions Week 8 predictions and best bets

This season, the Philly Influencer staff and contributors will be giving you their predictions and best bets!

The Eagles hit the road once again this weekend, heading to Detroit to face the winless Lions. Will they be able to bounce back and pick up a third win of the season, or will they suffer a humiliating defeat at Ford Field?

Here are the staff’s predictions and best bets:

Mike Diaz (@PhillyMike):

Everyone gave Sirianni a bunch of grief for comparing the this Eagles season to planting flowers and just because you don’t see them blooming yet, there is a lot of growth below the surface. My wife planted a bunch of flowers and shrubs this year and within the last months, the deer ate some of them down to grown. It’s like they’ve disappeared! What about that scenario Nick? I don’t think there’s a lot of growth under the surface with those, do you? Did you ever think about the deer? The tragic comedy continues this week.

Lions 24, Eagles 21

Bruce Vail (@BruceJVail):

To be honest the Lions have looked like a stronger team this year despite having zero wins on the year. They play hard and honestly have been unlucky to come away with a W, having lost two games at the gun to a GW field goal. They play hard. The eagles on the other hand are a complete mess and I can’t get over the ridiculous Nick Sirianni flower comments.

Lions 27, Eagles 24.
Best bet: Lions +3

Chris Euksuzian(@ChrisEbomb):

I can easily say that I am not confident in this eagles team. It is very hard to back a team that is inconsistent on both sides of the ball. Most people would think this is a spot where the Eagles can get right here. I beg to differ! Jared Goff should have plenty of time in the pocket to find his weapons and take advantage of this secondary. This will be treated as the Lions Superbowl, being a winnable game! I will take the lions +3.5 playing against the flower budding Eagles. Not enough fertilizer for Sirianni here to cover the spread!

Lions 24, Eagles 14.
Best bet: Lions team total over 22.5

Tim O’Keefe (@TKO_Picks):

I’ve lost confidence. I’ve lost hope. The season is going the wrong direction and I don’t see the turnaround against a Lions team that is desperate for potentially their only win this season.

Lions 24, Eagles 20.

Mark Drumheller (@x_drumheller):

There isn’t a game on the board that features two desperate coaches. Dan Campbell is a puddle of tears after every loss while Nick Siranni’s team evaluates his staff through the media. The Eagles have a real talent edge over the Lions and hold advantages on both sides of the ball. How do better teams lose to less talented teams? There are three ways: turnovers, penalties, and special teams. The Eagles do a pretty good job on protecting the football but the other two could be an issue on Sunday. Siranni’s squad still leads the NFL in penalties per play, and Detroit has the third-ranked special teams unit in the league. There is one way to beat Jared Goff and that’s by pressure. I think Gannon gets aggressive with his back against the wall and the Eagles defense makes some key stops down the stretch. The Lions have +2.9% advantage in net success rate so this one will be alot closer than we want, but we will leave with the W to avoid disaster.

Eagles 23, Lions 20

Larry Henry Jr (@lhenry019):

The Philadelphia Eagles have been disappointing to say the least this season, but they should have enough talent and fight to beat the winless Detroit Lions this week. Jalen Hurts will be under pressure to deliver against a lowly Lions defense while Kenny Gainwell and Boston Scott will see more time due to Miles Sanders’ injury. Although the Eagles haven’t been spectacular defensively, I expect Jonathan Gannon to pressure Jared Goff heavily on Sunday and keep extra coverage on running back DeAndre Swift. It may not be pretty, but I fully back the Eagles to get their third win of the season on Sunday.

Eagles 24, Lions 10.
Best bet: Dallas Goedert O 49.5 yards (-110)
Dallas Goedert is going to be a key piece for the Eagles on Sunday, especially if they don’t run the football. Jalen Hurts will need a security blanket to dump passes off to and Goedert can easily be that guy. Goedert’s role should increase following Zach Ertz’s move to Arizona and the tight end has registered 49 yards receiving or more in three of six appearances this season.

The PI Brew  (@thepibrew):

This week the Eagles head up to Detroit to do battle in the toilet bowl game against the Lions. The Lions are winless on the season and the Eagles are 2-5. There’s nothing to look forward to in this game. Our coach sucks. Our quarterback has stunk up the joint recently. Our GM sucks. Everything sucks. I mean, if the Eagles win it’s a game they should win. If they lose, well that would be par for the course this year. The Eagles can’t possibly lose this game, can they? Think again. This will get worse before it gets better.

Lions 23, Eagles 21.

Sean Brace (@Sean_Brace):

This coach stinks. I dont care what anyone says, it’s a crime to watch this guy LEARN ON THE JOB as an NFL head coach. You can just see him drowning on the easiest decisions during the game. I’m tapping out and want Nick Lasso out after the season. Most of you will be saying the same thing after Sundays loss to the Lions.

Lions 24, Eagles 20.
