TKO’s College Football and NFL picks for Halloween Weekend 2022

Blog Record: 21-13

The Phillies are in the World Series, and I’m currently at a bachelor party in New Orleans. Life’s good. Let’s get it.

NCAAF: Oklahoma vs. Iowa State – Saturday, 12 p.m. ET (FS1)

  • Iowa State enters on four-game losing streak, but their defense has held teams in check over that stretch
  • Oklahoma’s offense is just not the juggernaut that we remember it to be from years past, and when they’ve faced good defenses (looking at Texas and TCU specifically), they have 24 points over those two games
  • Iowa State’s defense isn’t as good as Texas’, but its not far off and the Longhorns shut out the Sooners two weeks back
  • Result: Take Oklahoma under 27.5 points

NCAAF: Notre Dame vs. Syracuse – Saturday, 12 p.m. ET (ABC)

  • Syracuse is coming off their first loss of the season, and it is a potential let down spot… but the Orange have shown so much more this season compared to the Irish
  • Notre Dame is 4-3 with losses to Marshall and Stanford included in that record, neither of which is as good a team as Syracuse this year
  • The spread is low in my opinion because of historical bias of what this game would normally be, but that’s not the way these teams have played this year
  • Result: Take Syracuse -2.5

NCAAF: Ole Miss vs. Texas A&M – Saturday, 7:30 p.m. ET (SECN)

  • A&M is coming off three straight road losses, but before that they won two games against ranked opponents in their own building
  • This game is at Kyle Field where the 12th man will be present
  • Building off of last week, Ole Miss hadn’t had a real road test until they went to Death Valley against on Saturday… which didn’t go well to say the least (45-20 loss)
  • Ole Miss has to prove they can win in a tough environment for me, and on paper coming into the year A&M had just as much if not more talent than the Rebels so its not like Ole Miss has a huge advantage in that department
  • Result: Take Texas A&M +2

NFL: Broncos vs. Jaguars – Sunday, 9:30 A.M. ET (ESPN+)

  • A London game that is only broadcast on ESPN+, what else could we want? /sarcasm
  • The total in this game is sitting at 39.5, and my general rule of thumb is to go under on a total that low, but this is an exception
  • The Broncos are likely getting Russ back, and while he’s been terrible, it should jump start the offenses a bit
  • The Jags have gotten to 17 points (almost half way to total) in all but one of their games this season
  • Both other international games this year have gone well over the number
  • Result: Take over 39.5

NFL: Dolphins vs. Lions – Sunday, 1 P.M. ET (CBS)

  • The Lions offense has been very stagnant, but our total is sitting at 51 coming into this game
  • I believe this is due to an assumption the Lions offense is much better at home (haven’t scored less than 35 points in their own building), and I can believe that, especially as they are now much healthier again
  • Speaking of health, the Dolphins are also coming into this game at near full strength, and we’ve seen this offense explode several times this season
  • Also, seems like most teams offense like to “explode” against the Lions defense
  • Result: Take Over 51

NFL: Titans vs. Texans – Sunday, 4:05 P.M. ET (CBS)

  • Tennessee has a chance to take the division away relatively early this season if they can stay hot, and beating the depressing Texans on the road is a good way to do that
  • Texans have the fourth-worst rush defense in terms of YPC in the league, and expect Derrick Henry to feast on Sunday
  • Ryan Tannehill is listed as questionable for the game right now (which has brought the spread down to Titans -2.5), but I don’t have much concern even if he isn’t on the field, because Tennessee should be able to lean heavy on Henry as they have for years
  • The Texans just aren’t a very good football team
  • Take Titans -2.5
