The Morning Brew for March 28: ‘Nova in the Final Four, Flyers Clinging to Playoffs

Happy Easter Monday, everybody. Some of us have work. Some of us don’t. All I know is that Villanova is heading to the Final Four and the Flyers are still clinging to the second Wild Card playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Saturday night was pretty damn exciting. From the thrill of Villanova’s victory to the playoff atmosphere in a Flyers-Coyotes game that also included two questionable hits – one by Radko Gudas and the other by Martin Hanzal of the Coyotes – but neither player will face discipline by the league. Hanzal shoved Giroux and it looked really bad, and Gudas shoved Shane Doan down and his momentum carried him into the boards and wound up slamming into Doan’s head against the boards. The Flyers lost in regulation, so it wasn’t exactly a great weekend.

Let’s hit our sponsors before brewing it up for you.

A Cuban national apparently didn’t appreciate the Tampa Bay Rays trip to the country last week and threw beer into the Rays dugout on Saturday.

It was a Cuba thing,” Rays RHP Jake Odorizzi said. “I don’t speak Spanish too well. … I think it was a Cuban person, frustrated about the politics of it, I guess. He threw two beer cans. Nobody got hit. Nobody did anything. Maybe some guys got wet. It was a Cuba thing.”

A Belgian cyclist died after being struck by a race motorcycle after crashing.

Ric Flair’s daughter and Kevin Love, together? Hey, it could happen.

Current Ottawa Senator, Clarke MacArthur, reveals the battles he’s had with concussions, and how his most recent one ended his season prematurely. [OttawaCitizen.com]

MacArthur’s condition went from bad to almost intolerable.

“I needed toothpicks to keep my eyes open for the next two weeks,” he said. “The headaches. I can’t even describe the feelings. It was awful.”

MacArthur visited a specialist in Ann Arbor, Mich., who suggested he could be back playing before the new year, but weeks turned to months with no improvement. MacArthur couldn’t ride a stationary bike, couldn’t do anything that raised his heart rate, without the headaches returning. He felt useless around the house.

“I felt like I was failing, this (doctor) said I would be back by January and I can’t even work out,” he said. “I’ve got a five-month-old at home. It was tougher on Jess than me. It was pretty scary. Whatever I did with that hit in Columbus, all the vestibular (which controls balance) went to hell in a handbag. Focusing on anything was just painful.”

Panthers cornerback, Josh Norman, apparently wants $16 million a year. Good luck with that.

Katt Williams is out here fighting with middle schoolers during a kickball game.

A three-year old ate a bag containing crack cocaine at a day care center. In Philly. The day care owner saved the child, reportedly.

A few phone calls is all it took for Broncos general manager, John Elway, to express concern about Robert Griffin III’s character.
