The Eagles Traded up to No. 2 and Sam Bradford Is Pissed

He had heard the rumors for weeks, for months, but the reality is quickly setting in.

Sam Bradford is pissed!

The Philadelphia Eagles shockingly moved up to the No. 2 spot in next week’s NFL Draft Wednesday afternoon following a blockbuster trade with the Cleveland Browns.

Adam Schefter reported on his Facebook account that Bradford is “hot” and wants to show everyone “who’s best.”

It’s only natural, but those who have spoken to Sam Bradford say he is not happy with today’s trade.

“He’s hot,” said one source. “Who wouldn’t be? This is Philly saying, ‘We don’t see (you) as long-term answer.’ He’s mad and wants to show everyone who’s best.’’

As a competitor Bradford, should be ticked off. He’s fully healthy throughout an entire offseason for the first time in years and is desperately attempting to dispose of his bust label as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 draft.

But turns out he’s just a stop-gap, another bump in the road for his career. Most likely another new franchise next year. Another new offense to learn.

The Rams are in a position to win now with Todd Gurley in tow at running back and a scary defensive front seven which includes defensive end Robert Quinn and defensive tackle Aaron Donald. California’s Jared Goff appears the more pro-ready prospect and might be able to start in Week 1. I think he’s the guy Los Angeles plucks with the top pick.

So that leaves the Eagles with Wentz, who has just 23 starts and 612 pass attempts at the FCS level. I don’t expect him to see much action this season unless Bradford gets hurt, but then again, head coach Doug Pederson might elect to go with Chase Daniel.

Bradford has a cap hit of $12.5 million this season and the Eagles would save just $1.5 million in cap space if they traded him prior to the start of the year, so he’ll definitely be on the roster. Next year, the cap hit rises to $22.5 million with a $9.5 million dead money value. Philly would save $17 million in cap space if they traded him after the season and you’d think a potential trade partner would renegotiate his contract.

He’s a stop gap, the bridge to Wentz as he learns the ropes.

But what if Bradford goes out and proves everybody wrong. What if he becomes a franchise quarterback in 2016? Then what?
