What’s Happening in Philly This Weekend: November 4-6

Each weekend, we will post some of the most unique social and culture places to visit in addition to exciting events in and around the Philly area. We call it Philly Influencer’s Weekend Picks. 1. Films at the AAMP: In the Morning


Where: The African American Museum, 701 Arch St.
When: Friday, November 4th, 7PM-9PM

The AAMP presents a screening of Nefertite Nguv‘s film In the Morning. Friday evening there will be a discussion panel and special event themed by the project. The screening is part of the African American Museum’s fall and winter exhibition “i found god in myself”, celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Ntozake Shanhe’s “For Colored Girls”. The film, set in Brooklyn, follows the lives of nine individuals as they navigate the hectic city, their jobs, heartbreak, and blossoming love. Tickets range from $5-$7.

2. Kellogg’s Tour of Gymnasts


Where: Wells Fargo Center, 3601 S Broad St.
When: Friday, November 4th, 7:30PM

Gabrielle Douglas, Nastia Lukin, Simone Biles, Laurie Hernandez, Aly Raisman, and more come to the Wells Fargo Center this Friday night. Along with the 2012 and 2016 U.S. Olympics Gymnastics teams, Kellog’s presents an evening like no other. There will be a VIP pre-show Olympian Chalk Talk lead by Nastia Lukin and others, autograph sessions, and a post-show autograph session. Discount tickets are available for gymnastic programs. 3. Terror Behind the Walls Remix


Where: Eastern State Penitentiary, 22nd St and Fairmount Ave.
When: Friday, November 4th and Saturday, November 5th, various times

Terror Behind the Walls presents “Lights Out”. It’s a terrifying horror experience shaped around the Eastern State Penitentiary’s haunted prison exhibition. Armed with only a single glow stick, your group will maze their way through six attractions in almost complete darkness. The hallways will be nearly pitch black, the corridors will be slender, and the sounds will frighten all. Tickets range between $25-$30.

4. Philly Fall Crawl


Where: Multiple locations in Center City
When: Saturday, November 5th, 12PM-8PM

Twelve of Center City’s bars open their doors to this massive bar crawl in the Philadelphia. Thousands of crawlers will unite at this event that’s in it second year. There will be great drink specials, free cover at bars, giveaways, t-shirt memorabilia, event maps, and more. The drinks will range between $3-$4. This fall celebration and gathering is perfect or the season, a great way to spend post-Halloween, and gears you up for the holiday chaos with some fun.

5. Unity Cup


Where: Citizens Bank Park, 1 Citizens Bank Way.
When: Saturday, November 5th, 12PM-8PM

Presented by Goya Foods, this event showcases the top teams in Philadelphia soccer. This free championship match is a  duel for the inaugural Philadelphia International Unity Cup Championship. There will also be fun-filled and family-friendly activities all day. There will be food trucks, craft vendors, and live musical acts. A youth soccer match representing various countries and a Pride of the Nations match also highlights the event.

6. Flyers Wives Carnival


Where: Wells Fargo Center, 3601 S Broad St.
When: Saturday, November 5th, 1:30PM-6:30PM

The Flyers Wives Carnival is one of the great and popular traditions of the area. This one-day event, hosted by the organization, is family gathering and jamboree that bridges the fan base with the players in a great way. Since 1977 the carnival has offered fans a chance to meet players, get autographs, and share in various activities with their family. There will be interactive games against players, a 60-ft Ferris wheel, a carousel, and various vendors. Be sure to come out and have a great time for an even better cause.

7. Jewish Film Fest Opening


Where: 401 S Broad St.
When: Saturday, November 5th-19th, various screening times

From November 5th-Novemebr 19th, the #PJFF36 (Philadelphia Jewish Film Festival) is in full effect! The lineup includes a 33 films from 12 different countries all around the world. The festival includes 16 feature documentaries, 9 feature films, and 8 short films picked by the screening committee. The films celebrate and honor Jewish culture and also fortifies this city’s prolonged and collaborative efforts to enrich cultural narratives.

8. La Finquita


Where: 428 W Master St.
When: Saturday, November 5th, 4PM-9PM

La Finquita Community Farm and Garden will be brimming with fun and excitement this Saturday. The fifth annual fall fiesta will have activities and events for the entire family. The festivities will have face painting, photo booths, food vendors, music, hot cider, bon fires, and more. Mi Pueblito Food Truck will be serving tacos from 6PM-9PM. Costumes are encouraged at this great family affair.

9. Yards Brawlerfest


Where: 500 Spring Garden St.
When: Saturday, November 5th, 2PM-7PM

The 1st annual Brawlerfest is this weekend. Called an “old school beer and music festival,” this event offers a wide array of activities. The proceeds from the festival will go to Musicians On Call and Beat the Streets Philadelphia. Admission gets you beer, live music access, and more. Lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez, radio personalities, DJ Beer Bait, and others will be in attendance. The food truck lineup is 215, OINK and MOO BBQ, Taco Mondo, and Mom-Mom’s Polish Food truck. Tickets are $55 and lesser for designated drivers.

10. The Great Harvest Cider and Beer Festival


Where: Hawthornes Beer Café, 738 S 11th St.
When: Saturday, November 5th, 1PM-8PM

Hawthornes will be hosting a harvest cider and beer festival this Saturday. South street will burst with hard ciders, autumn and lagers, pumpkin ales, and many more brews. There will be live bands, a steaming variety of food, and spacious areas for you to you enjoy. There will be a fun zone for kids that has a massive inflatable slide, various jungle gyms, and other activities. The event offers over 40 ciders and almost double the amount of beers. The event is cash only.

11. Lewis Black


Where: Kimmel Center, 300 S Broad St.
When: Saturday, November 5th, 8PM

Stark and engaging comedian Lewis Black brings his “The Emperor’s New Clothes The Naked Truth” tour to the Kimmel Center this Saturday night. In association with Live Nation, the popular performer’s tour brings one of the best in stand-up comedy to Philadelphia. The 200 night worldwide tour promises bring laughter, excitement, and insightful commentary about the oddities of the world. This brilliant comedian should not be missed.

12. Cavaliers at 76ers


Where: Wells, Fargo Center, 3601S Broad St.
When: Saturday, November 5th, 7PM

The reigning NBA champions come to the Wells Fargo Center to take on The Philadelphia 76ers this Saturday night. NBA elite and legend Lebron James and All-star Kyrie Irving bring their prowess to the floor as they take on our own rising star Joel Embiid. The 76ers haven’t won a game this season and would love nothing else than to notch their first victory against the best. Come out and support your local team, cheer them on,  and see them seize their first win.

13. Philly Bike Expo


Where: Pennsylvania Convention Center, 1101 Arch St.
When: Saturday, November 5th and Sunday, November 6th, 10AM-4PM

In its sixth year, the Philadelphia Bike Expos will be on full display this Saturday and Sunday. Founded by Bilenky Cycle Works in 2010, the event has seminars, exhibits, offers bike tours and races, endurance cycling, and more. Several artisans and crafters will be on site talking about their passion for sculpting bikes. There will be an ArtBike! party, instructional classes, design speakers, and several innovative demos. This is a great event for all ages providing a plethora of information about biking, great visuals, and exciting activities.

14. Philly Veterans Parade and Festival


Where: JFK Blvd and 16th St.
When: Sunday, November 6th, 12PM-4:30PM

The 2nd annual Philadelphia Veterans Parade and Festival is this Saturday. Rain or shine the parade will go on as it showcases the Veterans Honor ceremony. Veterans from all of the branches of military service will be honored and celebrated. There will be veterans outreach tables, a rock climbing wall, a beer garden, food vendors, and face painting.  Live music will provide the soundtrack to this joyous day that includes family-friendly activities like balloon artists and a variety of military service representations. This event is dedicated to support our veterans and their families.

 

15. 23rd St Armory Bacon and Beer Festival


Where: 23rd St Armory, 22 S 23rd St.
When: Sunday, November 6th, 2:30PM-5PM

This is the fourth year of this beloved bacon and beer themed event. Local restaurants will be in fill force offering a diverse selection of bacon. The eateries will provide creative and tasty dishes that includes the savory item. There will also be dozens of local and national craft beers and drafts available at the event. A regular ticket get you access to the beer and bacon samples while supplies lasts. A VIP Baller ticket gets you the same access but it also allows you to skip the line, gets a t-shirt, a decorative glass and tote bag, and 1/2 lb. of 1732 Meats bacon. Tickets are $50 or $85.

16. Lock and Key Singles Mixer


Where: Paddy Whacks, 150 South St.
When: Saturday, November 5th, 8PM

Philly Lock and Key is a fun, interactive, engaging, and exciting way to socialize and mingle this Saturday night. This paring event will either help you meet your match or just gives you an enjoyable evening with new people. Thee will be food and drinks as you go from table to table. This informal extended happy hour event offers to break the ice of an awkward first date and unwind while discovering new individuals in the city. The cost ranges from $22-$32 depending if you RSVP previously or pay at the door.

17. Fuel the Cure 9th Annual Gala

Where: 23rd St Armory, 22 S 23rd St.
When: Saturday, November 5th, 8PM-1AM

FUEL the CURE provides this great night of philanthropy at this annual black-tie gala in the city. Hundreds will come together dressed in their best for a great cause this Saturday night. At the historic and local center the 23rd Street Armory, experience up to five open bars and food stations throughout the event. The menu includes classic hors d’oeuvre, late night cheesesteaks, and more. There will be live music, dancing, silent auction prizes, vacation giveaways, and more. Proceeds go to Summer search, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and the FUEL the CURE impact program. Tickets are $140.

18. Museum Sundays


Where: Philadelphia Museum of Art, 2600 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy, Barnes Foundations, 2025 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy.
When: Sunday, November 6th, 10AM

Every first Sunday of the month, between the hours of 10AM-5PM at the Philadelphia Museum of Artm is “Pay What You Wish” day. Come see current exhibits such as “Paint the Revolution: Mexican Modernism, 1910-1950”, visit the New South Asian galleries, “Design Currents”, and the classical splendor the museum has to offer. Sunday is also “Free First Sundays” at the Barnes Foundation. There will be three 20 minute performances of theater and dance by Tiny Dynamite and Kun-Yang Lin/Dancers. Attendees will also get access to all the collections in the museum.

19. Dave East


Where: Voltage Lounge, 421 N 7th St.
When: Sunday, November 6th, 8PM

American rapper Dave East performs at Voltage lounge this Sunday night. Signed to hip hop and rap great Nas’s label, Mass Appeal Records, the act continues to grow since his 2014 release Black Rose. 2016 has been an exceptional year for the rapper as he cultivates a bigger following through the masses. Featured in urban magazine XXL’s “2016 Freshman Class”, he’s spring boarded himself from his 2015 release Hate Me Now success and acclaim. East has partnered with several big names in rap and R&B such as Trey Songz, Meek Mill, Future, Fabolous, and more. Come see this emerging act and have a thrilling night.

20. Eagles at Giants at Revolutions


Where: Revolutions, 1009 Canal St.
When: Sunday, November 6th, 1PM

Revolutions at Penn Treaty offers Happy Hour every Sunday during Eagles games. This Sunday between the hours of 12:30PM-4:30PM come partake in half off draft beers, well drinks, house wine, and more. The bowling entertainment venue has plenty to offer in fun and excitement. The spacious and fairly new hotspot has many bars, a menu with a wide variety, and great lineup of drink selections. Come watch the game on a massive projection screen or any of the other TV is the building. This will be a great way to watch your team bounce back and get a win this week.

21. Manayunk Cocktail Week Kickoff


Where: Various locations in Manayunk
When: Sunday, November 6th – Sunday, November 13th, Various times

Sunday night, the kickoff bash for Manayunk Cocktail Week highlights the start of a new week. Sunday’s event named Hendrick’s Peculiar Lemonade, is a cocktail competition sponsored by Hendrick’s Gin. This event will have attendees travel to eight participating bars and sample their sweet and sour lemonade themed creations. The week long cocktail celebration includes dozens of your local favorite Manayunk bars and restaurants that will have specialty menus, extended happy hours, tastings, dinner pairings , cocktail competitions, and more.
