What’s Happening This Weekend in Philly: November 11-13

Each weekend, we will post some of the most unique social and culture places to visit in addition to exciting events in and around the Philly area. We call it Philly Influencer’s Weekend Picks. 1. Rothman Ice Rink Opening


Where: Dilworth Park, 1 S 15th St.
When: Friday, November 11th, 12PM-11PM, Mondays-Thursdays 12PM-9PM, Fridays 11AM-11PM, Saturdays 12PM-8PM, Sundays 12PM-8PM

The Rothman Institute Ice Rink returns to Dilworth Park Friday, November 11th. The seasonal and majestic structure has become a beacon for  the holiday season. In its third year, the rink will salute and honor Veterans Day on its opening day. Admission to the Rothman Rink is $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 10 and under, and ski rentals are $10. Ice skating lessons will also be on site.

2. Iliza: The Confirmed Kills Tour


Where: The Trocadero, 1003 Arch St.
When: Friday, November 11th, 7:30PM & 10:30PM

Comedian Iliza Shlesinger brings her wit and humor to The Trocadero for back to back shows this Friday. The 2008 winner of NBC series Last Comic Standing, former Excused host, and current TBS Separation Anxiety host, will give her audience pure comedic entertainment. The tour is named after her Netflix special Confirmed Kills which was released on the streaming media giant earlier this year.

3. Wintergarten at Dilworth Park


Where: Dilworth Park, 1 S 15th St.
When: Friday, November 11th

Along with the Rothman Rink, comes the Wintergarden. Presented by the Rothman Institute and the William Penn Foundation, the garden will feature a America’s Garden Capital Maze and a Made in Philadelphia Holiday Market. The market will have dozens of local artisans and unique crafts for sale. There will be college nights and Cocktails and Cold Ones will replace the summer favorite Center City Sips.

4. Asian American Film Festival


Where: Various locations including International House of Philadelphia and Asian Arts Initiative.
When: Saturday, November 12th-22nd, various times

The Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival (PAAFF) begins this weekend. The celebration displays the great culture and arts bursting and emerging from the Asian diaspora. The film festival has been a hallmark of the city since 2008. There will be numerous screenings, Q&A sessions, panel discussions with the audience and filmmakers, and so much more. There will also be musical showcases at this thrilling, entertaining, and propelling multi-day event.

5. Run Rocky Run


Where: Philadelphia Museum of Art, 2600 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy.
When: Saturday, November 12th, 7AM

Thousands of Philadelphians will come together for this Rocky inspired Rocky Run. The 10 mile and 5K excursion will march many through the streets of The City of Brotherly Love. There will be an “Italian Stallion Challenge” that will allow winners to take home and earn three finisher medals. The event, starting from the Philadelphia Museum of Art, will be a true test of strength and endurance. Be sure to have “Eye of the Tiger” blaring in your headphones.

6. 2016 Philadelphia Walk to End Alzheimer’s


Where: Citizens Bank Park, 1 Citizens Bank Way
When: Saturday, November 12th, 9AM

The 2015 Philadelphia Walk to End Alzheimer’s had a huge showing and amassed droves of Philadelphians. In 2016, the event wishes to surpass the numbers that made the previous walk #1 in the country. Citizens Bank Park will host this fundraising walk that seeks to raise awareness of the condition, knowledge, and support families and individuals who struggle with it daily. Please come out for this great cause seeking to find a cure for this horrendous disease.

7. Love Your Park Fall Service Day


Where: Several Parks in the City
When: Saturday, November 12th, 8AM

This “Green and Clean” labeled event celebrates the growth, care, and maintaining of Philadelphia’s parks. Over a hundred parks will be holding clean-up service events and several park grooming activities. Some parks will be having community breakfast, live music, tree paining, bulb planting, and more. Get ready to weed areas and spring beauty into these local parks along with several other volunteers.

8. AAMP and Mural Arts Tours


Where: The African American Museum, 701 Arch St.
When: Saturday, November 12th, 10AM-12PM

Even though Mural Arts Month ended in October, the fun and adventure isn’t over. The African American Museum of Philadelphia (AAMP) and Mural Arts have joined together by offering this two hour walking tour. The tour begins at the museum to explore the Ntozake Shange exhibit. The trek then continues through the neighborhood, to allow guests to view stunning murals. Tickets are $18 for adults and $12 for kids under the age of 12.

9. Old City Craft and Restaurant Stroll


Where: Old City District, various locations
When: Saturday, November 12th, 10PM-6PM

The Old City Craft Beer and Restaurant Stoll takes over the downtown district this Saturday. Over a dozen bars and restaurant in the area are participating in this culinary and craft beer festivity. There will be craft beer samples, cocktail options, and diverse and appetizing food tasters. Attendees will receive a craft beer crawl mug as a keepsake, a custom crawl map, and several drink specials. Tickets are $20.

10. XFINITY Live! Social Saturdays


Where: XFINITY Live! , 1100Pattison Ave.
When: Saturday, November 12th, 9:30Pm

XFINITY Live! presents Social Saturdays. The entertainment and exciting venue offers fans to opportunity to unwind and embrace the sounds of local live music. The Benderz will be performing an acoustic set inside the 1100 Social. There will be several food and drinks for all who want to come and enjoy this hour of memorable music. The event is free to enter.

11. Saturdays are for the Boys at City Tap


Where: City Tap House, 3925 Walnut St.
When: Saturday, November 12th, 2PM-5PM

City Tap House opens its doors for a great cause this Saturday. “Saturdays are for the Boys” is a fundraiser for the Testicular Cancer Foundation. For $40 guests can participate in a corn hole tournament, all-you-can-eat wings and sliders, and decide from a wide variety of beverages. Guests can have any drink of their choice including Yards Brewery, Ketel One, Smirnoff, Captain Morgan, and Crown Royal. All funds and proceeds will go to the TCF.

12. Brandy Clark: The Acoustic Tour


Where: Tin Angel, 20 South St
When: Saturday, November 12th, 8PM

Acoustic country singer-songwriter Brandy Clark brings her talents to Philadelphia. The 2015 Grammy nominee for Best New Artist, signature sound will echo through the walls of Tin Angel. Clark released her second album Big Day in a Small Town in February of this year. The two singles from the album are “Girl Next Door” and “Love Can Go to Hell.” Come see this CMA award winner and great entertainer this Saturday.

13. Garcia vs. Vargas


Where: The Liacouras Center, 1776 N Broad St.
When: Saturday, November 12th, 8PM

Philadelphia’s own WBC Welterweight Champion Danny Garcia will take on Samuel Vargas. This fight, under the Saturday night Liacouras lights,  will be energetic and a full display of sheer willpower, skill, and strength. This Premier Boxing Champions production will be Garcia’s final fight before his welterweight championship unification bout with Keith Thurman. This high energy sport will provide full-throttle fun this Saturday.

14. UFC 205 Watch Parties

When: Saturday, November 12th, 8PM

Speaking of extreme octane and brutal fights, UFC 205 is this weekend. Many bars and lounges in the area are offering several drink specials and themed food menus. The main fight card includes: Miesha Tate vs Raquel Penninton, Kelvin Gastelum vs Donald Cerrone, Chris Weidman vs Yoel Romero, Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs Karolina Kowalkiewicz, Tyron Woodley vs Stephen Thompson, and Eddie Alvarez vs Conor Mcgregor. 15. Fitz and Tantrums

Where: The Fillmore Philadelphia, 29 E Allen St.
When: Saturday, November 12th, 7PM

Los Angeles based indie pop band and soul grove band Fitz and Tantrums come to Philadelphia this Saturday. The six-member band released their third studio album this year. The self-titled project, released in June, was signaled by the lead single “HandClap”. They were named the hardest-working band by Vogue and are known for their coined pop sound that’s infused with retro soul.

16. Yellowcard


Where: The Electric Factory, 421 N 7th St.
When: Saturday, November 12th, 8PM

Another Los Angeles based band will be making some noise in Philadelphia this Saturday. Best known for their early singles, “Ocean Avenue”, “Only One”, and “Lights and Sounds”, this successful group released their self-titled album in September of this year. Come to the Electric Factory to hear this alternative rock band play some of your favorite tracks and to take in the evolution of their pop punk sound.

17. Novemberfest at Schmidt’s Commons


Where: The Schmidt’s Commons, 1001 N 2nd St.
When: Sunday, November 13th, 2PM-8PM

The Schmidt’s Commons will be hosting a pop up beer garden this Saturday. There will be plenty of craft beers at this piazza Novemberfest celebration. Enjoy tasty food, local brews, games, music, and fire pits at this community gathering. Local breweries such as the Evil Genius Brewing Company, Dock Street Brewery, Spring House Brewing Company, Jack’s Hard Cider, and more will be on display. There will also be a “Beerfest” movie screening at 6:00 p.m.

18. Philadelphia Orchestra Symphonic Sundays


Where: Dilworth Park, 1 S 15th St.
When: Sunday, November 13th, 12PM

Weekend festivities return to Dilworth Park at this reoccurring Sunday event for the winter season. Every Sunday from November 13ththrough February 26th, the Philadelphia Orchestra will host Symphonic Sundays at the Rothman Rink. From noon until 2 p.m., visitors to the ice skating marvel will hear music recorded by the orchestra as the slice the ice. Once a month, professional ice skaters will perform to the music.

19. Questlove


Where: The Fillmore Philadelphia, 29 E Allen St.
When: Sunday, November 13th, 9:30PM

Philadelphia native Questlove Supreme, will drum his way through a Fillmore set this Sunday. The percussionist, DJ, producer, drummer, and dual front man for The Roots will assuredly put on a vibrant and eclectic showcase for his fans. Come to The Foundry at the Fillmore to hear this great man in music blend the beats of soul and paint a picture of vibrating sound with his instruments. Tickets are $15.

20. Philadelphia Eagles vs. Atlanta Falcons


Where: Lincoln Financial Field, 1020 Pattison Ave.
When: Sunday, November 13th, 1PM

The Philadelphia Eagles (4-4) return to Lincoln Financial Field this Sunday to take on the Atlanta Falcons (6-3). Tooled and primed with a blazing hot Matt Ryan and top-tier wide receiver Julio Jones, the team will pose a great test to Philadelphia. The Birds will need all the energetic fans they can muster for this exciting matchup. Come see Carson Wentz and your beloved midnight green wearing team, take on this NFC leading team this Sunday at the Linc.

21. Pentatonix


Where: The Liacouras Center, 1776 N Broad St.
When: Sunday, November 13th, 7PM

Arlington, Texas forged a cappella group Pentatonix brings their world tour to Philadelphia this Sunday. The five member pop group known for their vocal arrangements, harmonies, choral basslines and percussions, has grown in great success in recent years. Winners of the third season of the NBC show The Sing-Off, the Grammy award-winning group has released five albums. This world tour spans North America, Asia, Europe, and Oceania.
