Sum of All Sports Report: 2017 NFL Draft Aftershocks

The luster and appeal from the NFL Draft is over, but because of the impact it had around the league it will be talked about for many years to come. Just as the city of Philadelphia played the role of spoiler for all the national pundits who were waiting for failure, the Chicago Bears continued to baffle the minds of every mock drafter across the country. Sorry to upstage you Mr. Glennon, but until you show you can lead a team with accuracy and precision the bars you would like to spit need to stay silent.

From the three wide receivers taken in the top 10 along with three quarterbacks in the top 12, the first round of the draft had enough unpredictability to leave Daniel Jeremiah questioning his own analytics. No one thought Andy Reid would move up from #27 to draft a quarterback, which shows the premium set on this prestigious position. We talked about it on the podcast and touched on how some quarterbacks will indirectly become millionaires based on a premium position. That is exactly what happened.

Some of the other storylines were Joe Mixon getting drafted by the criminal-ridden Cincinnati Bengals and Reuben Foster almost dropping out of the first round due to medical concerns. Odds are Big Reub doesn’t play at all this year while Mixon will be making it rain all along the Cincy strip with Mr. Jones. Now that the draft is over, all 32 teams get to feel the fallout in the coming months. One thing is for sure, the stories will certainly not lack hype or excitement and PhillyInfluencer.com will be the source to keep you updated!

Dive further into this issue with Fantasy Sports Analyst and Real Sports Writer Tony Cutillo as he welcomes all comments and opinions. He uses his expertise to elaborate on all the top stories of the week while using his perspective to gauge interest. Here are his other sticking points he has up for interpretation this week:

-NFL. Jay Cutler joins Tony Romo in the announcing booth: First it was Tony, and now it’s Jay. After the 2006 11th overall draft pick amassed zero interest from any NFL team, Cutler cut a deal with FOX Sports. He’ll be in the booth on Sundays with Kevin Burkhardt and Charles Davis. Burkhardt is FOX’s No. 2 play-by-play man behind Joe Buck. I don’t know about you, but based on his lack of excitement and expressions on the field, my expectations for him on the mic have been tempered.

-NBA. Is Lavar Ball the poison Lonzo doesn’t need? I am actually starting to feel sorry for Lonzo Ball. Nowadays, parents are deeply involved in their child’s academic and athletic careers, but sometimes they run their course of action a little bit too close. Just this week, the new Baller sneaker has been released as a trademark of Ball and comes with a $495 price tag ($995 Limited Edition). In my opinion, this is a terrible marketing ploy to give Lonzo much unneeded heat before he even steps onto an NBA court. Lavar needs to just step aside and let his kid play ball! Would he still be on your draft board?

-Fantasy Football. What top rookie WR will have the biggest impact?: Mike Williams, Corey Davis, and John Ross … who knew? Leading up to the draft, we all heard about these three receivers as being game-changers, but no one predicted they would all go in the top 10.  Over the last few years in Fantasy Football, the rookie wide receiver has been extremely productive, and this year may be no different. The question is, “Who will have the biggest impact?”

In my opinion, Williams will be in a perfect spot to post big numbers. He instantly becomes the best option behind Keenan Allen on a team that loves to rely on the arm of Philip Rivers. He is the big body receiver Rivers has sorely missed since the departure of Vincent Jackson. I am predicting a big year from Williams and one that could get him a second-round grade in PPR drafts. What do you think?

-Fantasy Baseball. Who is Aaron Judge? If you have been behind in your MLB coverage, you have been missing the sheer power display put on by the new slugger in the Bronx. No, it’s not Jenny from the block, but instead baseball’s version of Robocop.  Judge was taken 32nd overall in the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft, 30 picks after stud MVP, Kris Bryant. He stands 6’7, 282 lbs and has plenty of scouts asking themselves why they kept passing on him. He is leading MLB in homers and is easily the best storyline in baseball. Can he keep it up?

-WWE. Are the Hardy Boyz still broken? When Matt and Jeff made their long-anticipated return to the WWE at WrestleMania 33, everyone wondered in what facet they’d return: broken or unbroken. After the extreme music echoed throughout the Citrus Bowl, we found out quickly they were back to their old roots, but wondering for how long. This was barring the legal battle that ensued in order to get the rights to Matt’s “Broken” gimmick. Now that the agreement is documented and in place, it is just a matter of time before the “Broken” wrath will be felt by all. What version of the Hardys do you enjoy better?
