What’s Happening in Philly This Weekend: September 8-10

Each weekend, we will post some of the most unique social and culture places to visit in addition to exciting events in and around the Philly area. We call it Philly Influencer’s Weekend Picks. Events Running Through the Weekend

 

1. Fringe Festival

Where: Various locations
When: Thursday, September 7th- Sunday, September 24th

For almost the entire month of September, FringeArts’ Fringe Festival will be one of the main cultural and artistic events in the city each week. There will be dramatic preferences, discussions, dance displays, cabarets, musicals, sketches, comedic productions, and more.  There will be a kick-off party at Fringe Arts this Friday night.

2. We Are Connected Festival

Where: Various locations
When: Friday, September 8th, 4PM-8PM

The Benjamin Franklin Parkway is turning 100. To celebrate that feat the city will be hosting several events along the roadway structure over the next few weeks. This Friday, Parkway 100 will begin with the We Are Connected Festival. There will be music, food, drinks, and more. The special happy hour will include a live performance by singer Ginger Cole.

3. Luke Bryan

Where: Citizens Bank Park, 1 Citizens Bank Way.
When: Friday, September 8th, 4:30PM

Country star Luke Bryan will be taking over Citizens Bank Park this Friday afternoon. The Nashville singer’s Huntin’, Fishin’, and Lovin’ Everyday Tour will feature many of his fourteen number one hits on the country music charts. This early evening concert will have excitement and a great atmosphere for all country music fans in the city.

4. Campus Philly CollegeFest

Where: Dilworth Park, 1 S. 15th St.
When: Saturday, September 9th, 10AM- 3PM

Don’t let the 10 a.m. start time scare you away, this college themed event will be going full throttle into the afternoon. College students simply have to show their I.D. to gain free access to countless museums and institutions in the city. The Philly PHLASH downtown loop will also be available to take students to various locations. There will be lawn games, prizes, giveaways, music, vendors, and more.

5. Elmwood Park Zoo’s Oktoberfest

Where: Elmwood Park Zoo, 1661 Harding Blvd. Norristown, PA
When: Saturday, September 9th, 12PM-4PM

Elmwood Park Zoo will be hosting a spectacular beer tasting event this Saturday. Bring your friends and family out to the 10th Annual Elmwood Park Zoo Oktoberfest. There will be over 40 breweries represented at this beverage celebration. Everything from ciders to craft beer will be available. There will also be live music and food.

6. Fishtown Flea

Where: 1220 Frankford Ave.
When: Saturday, September 9th, 10AM-6 PM

The neighborhood of Fishtown will be hosting an outdoor and open-air vendor market this Saturday morning. There will be 11 vendors displaying their handmade crafts, appliances, jewelry, household items, skin care products, and more. There will also be ice cream, donuts, fresh cocktails, coffee, and other food trucks on location.

7. Temple vs. Villanova

Where: Lincoln Financial Field, 1020 Pattison Ave.
When: Saturday, September 9th, 3:30PM

This Saturday come to Lincoln Financial Field for the annual Mayor’s Cup football game between the Villanova Wildcats and the Temple Owls. The second week of college football will bring this exciting matchup full of local tradition and enthusiasm. Come out and cheer on your favorite home team, whichever it may be, at this memorable game.

8. Doylestown Arts Festival

Where: N. Main Street. Doylestown, PA
When: Saturday, September 9th through Sunday, September 10th, 10 AM-5PM

The 2017 Doylestown Arts Festival will be this Saturday and Sunday. There will be tons of art, live music, DJs, food trucks, and several other activities. Here you’ll be able to peruse the lineup of metal workers, print makers, crafters, glassblowers, and others as they show off their amazing talents. This community spectacle is a great place to find one-0f-a kind treasures.

9. Salsa Saturday

Where: Mount Pleasant Mansion, Mt Pleasant Dr.
When: Saturday, September 9th, 6PM-9PM

Kevin Ngo & Parks on Tap have joined to bring the locals this amazing Salsa Saturdays event. The Mount Pleasant Mansion will have many activities throughout the day including lawn games and a history of beer discussion. From 6PM-8PM the DJ will be blasting salsa music for all in attendance.  Parks on Tap Jr. will also be taking place at Covered Bridge at 2PM-7PM this weekend.

10. Rittenhouse Craft Beer and Restaurant Stroll

Where: 1801 Rittenhouse Sq.
When: Saturday, September 9th, 12PM-6PM

This Saturday the Rittenhouse Craft Beer & Restaurant Stroll will be one of the many libations celebrations livening up Philadelphia. Bounce from bar to bar and enjoy $3 craft beer specials. Participants will be given a crawl map and a souvenir tasting mug. Eighteen locations around Rittenhouse Square will be participating.

11. Philadelphia’s Summer Wine-down Festival

Where: The Greater Philadelphia Expo Center, 100 Station Rd. Oaks, PA
When: Saturday, September 9th, 12PM-6PM

Over 8 wineries ans distilleries will be front and center at the Philadelphia Summer Wine-down Festival this Saturday. There will also be 9 vendors selling everything from vacations to food. Entry into this event gets you access to samples of various wine and beverages, a stemless souvenir glass, and more. There will also be a bottle check area for your enjoyment.

12. Philadelphia Assembled

Where: Perelman Building, 2525 Pennsylvania Ave.
When: Sunday, September 10th through Sunday, December 10th

Philadelphia Assembled will be holding its opening celebration this Sunday. The embracing collective celebrates enhancing narratives that portray the essence of Philadelphia urban life. Partnered by the Philadelphia Museum of Art, this event will have several activities including films, panels, discussions, art, and so much more.

13. Clover Market

Where: 25 W. Highland Ave.
When: Sunday, September 10th, 10AM-4PM

Chestnut Hill will have an abundance of mercantile vendors and distributors during several weeks this fall. This Sunday come to the Clover Market and find of massive amount of seller peddling antiques and more. There will food available, kids crafting corners, a meet and greet with adoptable animals, and live music.

14. Greenfest

Where: Bainbridge St, between 3rd and 5th Street
When: Sunday, September 10th, 10AM-4PM

Toyota Hybrids presents the 2017 Philly Greenfest. Since 2006 this event has been a highlight of Philadelphia. There will be over 100 vendors and exhibitors at this green themed marketplace. The festival will offer up tons of ideas to live a free, healthier, and balanced lifestyle. There will be discussions, demonstrations, and plenty of activities at this free to enter wellness event.

15. Mexican Independence Day

Where: Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing, 101 S. Columbus Blvd.
When: Sunday, September 10th, 2PM-8PM

PECO Multicultural Series continues its celebratory cultural festivals this Sunday. Penn’s Landing will be buzzing with the Mexican Independence Day gathering. There will be mariachi, traditional dances, fireworks, plenty of authentic food for sale, and tons of excitement in the air.

16. Center City Restaurant Week

Where: Various locations
When: Sunday, September 10th through Tuesday, September 19th

Center City Restaurant Week begin this Sunday. Up to 120 eateries will have several food offerings and specialty menus available. Three-course lunches will be $20 and the three-course dinners will be $35. Come to Center City during these days for exquisite meals at these stellar restaurants at a wallet friendly price.

17. Billy Joel

Where: Citizens Bank Park, 1 Citizens Bank Way.
When: Saturday, September 9th, 8PM

“Piano Man” singer Billy Joel will be serenading the Citizens Bank Park crowd this Sunday. This is the second mega blowout concert to take over the stadium this weekend. The singer-songwriter is one of the best-selling solo acts in music history. He’s a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee. Come see the musical legend in all his vocal splendor.

18. 2 Chainz

Where: The Fillmore Philadelphia, 29 E. Allen St.
When: Sunday, September 10th, 8PM

The concerts keep coming this Sunday with hip hop act 2 Chainz at The Fillmore Philadelphia. The act released another solo album this year titled Pretty Girls Like Trap Music. The rapper will be in the building maneuvering the crowd and filling the venu with his great stage presence. This will be the premier rap show of the weekend.

19. Lady Gaga

Where: Wells Fargo Center, 3601 S. Broad St.
When: Sunday, September 10th, 7:30PM & Monday, September 11th, 7:30PM

Throughout the city, before this artist’s Joanne debuted, you might’ve seen the outline of the album cover spray painted on the pavement. The Joanne World Tour will be headlining the Wells Fargo Center for a two night series. Lady Gaga will bring her larger than life show that dazzled Super Bowl LI to Philadelphia this Sunday and Monday night.
