What’s Happening in Philly This Weekend: October 6-8

Each weekend, we will post some of the most unique social and culture places to visit in addition to exciting events in and around the Philly area. We call it Philly Influencer’s Weekend Picks. Events Running Through the Weekend

1. King of Prussia Beerfest

Where: King of Prussia Mall, 160 N. Gulph Rd. King of Prussia, PA
When: Thursday, October 5th and Saturday October 7th

It will be beer o’clock this weekend at the King of Prussia Mall. Come out to Beerfest Royale this Thursday and Saturday. There will be a tremendous happy hour and massive sampling events. The drinking celebration will have live music, plenty of food vendors, and a multitude of craft beers and cocktails.

2. Gardens of the Mind

Where: The African American Museum, 701 Arch St.
When: Runs through Tuesday, January 16th

The African America Museum in Philadelphia will be opening its Gardening of the Mind: Echoes of the Feminine View series this week. The exhibit will have an opening reception that’s free with RSVP. There be discussions, food, and beverages. Come see what the works of Barbara Bullock, Martha Jackson Jarvis, Joiri Minaya, E. J. Montgomery and Glynnis Reed are all about.

3. Design Philadelphia

Where: Various locations
When: Runs through Saturday, October 14th

Philadelphia hosts this highly anticipated and innovative festival each year. Design Philadelphia will showcase great feats in architecture. There will be urban design, furniture design, textiles, industrial pieces, lighting features, landscape exhibits, graphic design, and more at this fascinating event.

4. Spooky Mini Golf

Where: Franklin Square, 6th & Race St.
When: Friday, October 6th, 7PM

Franklin Square will have several events at the entertainment hotspot this weekend. Through the month of October there will Spooky mini golf each weekend from 6PM-9PM. Come out Saturday night for a special screening of the classic film Ghostbusters from 7PM-11PM.

5. 23rd Street Armory Oktoberfest

Where: 23rd Street Armory, 22 S. 23rd St.
When: Friday, October 6th through Sunday, October 8th

The 23rd Street Armory will be fueling the area with German beers and cultural cuisine all weekend long. There will be live music each day of this event. There will be four overall sessions during the three-day event in which up to 1,600 people will have the option to drink a multitude of samples.

6. Promument at PAFA

Where: Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, 118 N. Broad St.
When: Friday, October 6th, 7PM-11PM

The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (PAFA) will be hosting Promument to celebrate the Monuments Lab that’s been taking over the city over the last few weeks. There will be live music, a DJ, cocktails, food, and more at this blowout party. The Roots’ Questlove will also be in attendance. Chuck Close Photographs  will also kick off their display Friday night.

7. Philadelphia 76ers vs. Boston Celtics

Where: Wells Fargo Center, 3601 S. Broad St.
When: Friday, October 7th, 7PM

The Philadelphia 76ers began their preseason schedule this Wednesday against the Grizzlies. The home games will continue this Friday when they take on the Boston Celtics. The conference and divisional rival will be in town to see the revamped Sixers lineup. Come to the Wells Fargo Center to see Fultz, Simmons, and company light up the floor.

8. Paramore

Where: Tower Theatre, 69th St and Ludlow St.
When: Friday, October 6th, 8PM

Rock band Paramore will be blazing the stage at the Tower Theatre this Friday night. Front woman Hayley Williams will be singing the tracks from the bands 2017 release After Laughter and previous albums. The “Still Into You” act will be one of the best concerts of the weekend.

9. Indigenous People Weekend

Where: Museum of the American Revolution, 101 S. 3rd St.
When: Saturday, October 7th through Monday, October 9th

The Museum of the American Revolution will be celebrating Indigenous People Weekend for the next few days. There will be historical chronicles and narrative brought to life through discussions and arts. The museum will also be open for gallery access, will host a story time, host Native dancers, have cultural panels, and more.

10. Philadelphia Open Studios 

Where: Various locations
When: Saturday, October 7th through Sunday, October 8th and Saturday, October 14th through Sunday, October 15th

Each year several participating studios in the city open their doors and gives the public a glimpse into their halls. Open Studio tours allows many curious souls and art lovers to peruse creators in their habitat. You’ll be able to see them in their spaces painting, sculpting, sketching, and more. Finished work and gallery pieces will also be on display.

11. Philadelphia Dragon Boat Festival

Where: Schuylkill Banks
When: Saturday, October 7th, 8:30AM-5:30PM

The 2017 Dragon Boat Festival is this Saturday. Come to the Schuylkill Banks to see 20 paddlers, drummers, and others steer this long boats on the water. This will be will be a great showcase of teamwork as the paddlers work in unison to splice the water and lead their teams to victory.

12. Revolutionary Germantown Festival

Where: Cliveden, 6401 Germantown Ave.
When: Saturday, October 7th, 10AM-8PM

Historic Germantown’s house Cliveden will be the setting of the Revolutionary Germantown Festival this Saturday. There will be battle reenactments, impersonators of great figures in history, speeches, recognition of how local events shaped the war, and much more. The event will end with a Battle Bash that includes food, drinks, games, and music.

13. Greensgrow Farms Fall Festival

Where: Greensgrow Farms, 2501 E. Cumberland St.
When: Saturday, October 7th, 10AM.-4PM

Greensgrow Farms will be hosting this free and community enriching event. Subaru and the farm have teamed up to provide harvest dishes, live music, crafts, games, and plenty of farmhouse fun. There will be an apple pie contest, cider pressing, a visit from the Phillie Phanatic, and more for the whole family.

14. Media Craft Beer and Restaurant Stroll

Where: Various locations in Media, PA
When: Saturday, October 7th, 12PM-6PM

Media Pennsylvania will be hosting a Craft Beer and Restaurant Stroll. Participants will get a souvenir mug, a crawl mug, and be able to sample dozens of brews. There will be food at each location and $3 specialty drink menus during the entire event. If you’re in that area and looking for an exciting event, then this is for you.

15. Midtown Village Fall Fest

Where: Broad and Market streets to Broad and Spruce Streets
When: Saturday, October 7th, 12PM-8PM

The 2017 Midtwon Village Fall Festival is this Saturday afternoon. This free to enter gathering will have food, drinks, and plenty of shops open for business. Come out for the splendor of local arts, crafts, collectibles, and more being peddled by area merchants. Thousands have been known to navigate through the streets each year at this event.

16. Morris Arboretum’s Fall Festival

Where: Morris Arboretum, 100 E. Northwestern Ave.
When: Saturday, October 7th through Sunday, October 8th

Tis the season to paint pumpkins and roll headfirst in to the fall holidays. This Saturday the Morris Arboretum’s  Fall Festival will have a make your own scarecrow tent, a pumpkin painting area, an apple harvest section, and live animals. There will also be workouts in the gardens and several other activities for the entire family.

17. Roxtoberfest

Where: From Ridge Ave. and Leverington Ave. to Ridge Ave. and Lyceum Ave.
When: Saturday, October 7th, 12PM-6PM

Roxborough will be having its own intriguing Oktoberfest party this Saturday. There will be food trucks, vendors, live music stages, beer gardens, games, and more at this free to enter event. The  community sidewalk jamboree will also have carnival games and several engaging activities.

18. Kevin James

Where: Merriam Theater, 250 S. Broad St.
When: Saturday, October 7th, 8PM

He made audiences laugh for years as the King of Queens. Now Kevin James is the executive producer of the CBS sitcom Kevin Can Wait. Whether he’s engineering jokes for his Netflix showcase True Memoirs of an International Assassin or for this Saturday night, he always provides the best brand of comedy for his fans.

19. Kesha

Where: The Fillmore Philadelphia, 29 E. Allen St.
When: Saturday, October 7th, 9PM

Kesha spent the entirety of 2017 trying to move past the national headlines that garnered her attention in 2016. She channeled her ordeals, both public and private, into her latest album release Rainbow. Come see the “Praying” singer at The Fillmore Philadelphia this Saturday night as she depicts her journey through her music.

20. Halsey

Where: Wells Fargo Center, 3601 S. Broad St.
When: Saturday, October 7th, 7PM

Fresh off hopeless fountain kingdom hitting the store and streaming shelves this year, Halsey will be bringing her 2017 tour to the Wells Fargo Center this Saturday night. Headliners PARTYNEXTDOOR and Charli XCX will get the party going before the “Now or Never” and “Gasoline” NJ native takes over the arena.

21. Movie Night at The Schmidt’s Commons

Where: The Schmidt’s Commons, 1001 N. 2nd St.
When: Saturday, October 7th, 7PM-9PM

The Schmidt’s Commons continually has several welcoming events at their open piazza. This Saturday night will be no exception. Bring your friends and family out to a screening of the Halloween classic The Addams Family. This is a bring your own chair event that will have snacks and drinks in the vicinity.

22. Old City Fest

Where: 3rd and Arch St.
When: Sunday, October 8, 11AM.-6PM

Sunday’s events starts with the always popular Old City Festival. Old city District will be swimming with the masses as they come out to eat, shop and browse the stocks of local vendors and stores, watcha fashion show, and admire the musical performances. This free to enter event will have a family fun zone and more. Be sure to stop by this Friday for the Old City First Friday events as well.

23. Outfest

Where: 13th and Locust St.
When: Sunday, October 8, 12PM-6PM

Philly Pride will be on full display this Sunday at Outfest 2017. In its 27th year, the event will have vendors and several local restaurants participating in the Gayborhood area. Last years thousands came out to see the 160+ organizational display to celebrate National Coming Out Day.

24. Eagles vs. Cardinals

Where: Lincoln Financial Field, 1 Lincoln Financial Field Way
When: Sunday, October 8th, 1PM

Its been back-to-back wins for the Birds and they’ll be looking for their third as they take on the Arizona Cardinals at the Linc this Sunday afternoon. Bring your energy, cheers, and boos to the game and watch as Carson Wentz and the rest of the squad soar to another victory.

25. Guns N’ Roses

Where: Wells Fargo Center, 3601 S. Broad St.
When: Sunday, October 8th, 7PM

The third stop at the Wells Fargo Center closes out the list this week. This Sunday power rock gods Guns N’ Roses will be welcoming Philadelphia to the jungle and electrifying their crowd of adoring fans. Come see Axl, Slash, and the rest of the “Sweet Chold O’ Mine” singers this weekend.
