Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Browns will cut quarterback Johnny Manziel when the new league year begins on March 9. On that date, Cleveland can cut Manziel and take a cap hit of $4,333,487. Manziel’s 2017 salary guarantee will immediately hit their salary cap. This is also all after Cleveland Browns VP of Football Operations, Sashi Brown, released a statement Tuesday saying that they plan to address his status with team once the league rules permit.
We’ve been clear about expectations for our players on and off the field. Johnny’s continual involvement in incidents that run counter to those expectations undermines the hard work of his teammates and the reputation of our organization. His status with our team will be addressed when permitted by league rules. We will have no further comment at this time.”
The larger story here is this – will Manziel ever play in the NFL again? There will always be interest in talent, especially QB talent, in the NFL. However, in just two years, Manziel has had more negative attention and happenings than most would ever see in an entire career. Are the Cowboys dumb enough to take him on? God, I hope so. Would it make for amazing blogs, and trash talk material? You bet your ass. Will it actually happen? I just can’t see it.
So, with that, I think we may be *saying goodbye to the NFL career of the once great, Johnny Manziel.
*Or we get to enjoy the train wreck more in Dallas. Fingers crossed!
