Howie Roseman is back in charge, and while we all knew that, Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie made sure to let everyone know about it – again – during the owners meeting in Boca Raton, Florida on Tuesday.
“He is responsible for the football operations,” he said.
Lurie’s been ecstatic about the offseason so far and stated that Roseman’s decisions have been “outstanding.”
“What Howie’s been able to do is pretty outstanding in a league that values salary cap space and draft choices,” he said. “To be able to make those trades, align our resources the way we preferred and to move forward from there, he’s had a great plan … At the moment, couldn’t be more pleased.”
However, if Roseman’s $100-plus million spending spree and eye-popping trades of Byron Maxwell, Kiko Alonso and DeMarco Murray don’t work out and if future moves are lackluster, he will be held accountable.
“He will be held responsible for how the player personnel does in the future. He will be held responsible for the quality of that department,” Lurie said.
And speaking of personnel, Philadelphia still plans on hiring someone to work under Roseman.
“We always knew there would be a certain group of people available right after the season, and a larger group available right after the draft,” Lurie said, “That was always the intent.”
