The Philadelphia Phillies are hosting a bunch of theme nights this year and one night in particular has caught the attention of many people. On Monday, August 29th, they are set to host their first ever LGBT pride night. Here’s the description of the night from their website:
The Phillies invite you to celebrate Philadelphia’s rich LGBT culture at our inaugural Pride Night Celebration at Citizens Bank Park on Monday, August 29 at 7:05 p.m. when the Phillies host the Washington Nationals. All members of the LGBT community, as well as family, friends and organizations are invited to come out and show their pride at this event.”
The Oakland Athletics held their first pride night last season. I believe we’ll see and SHOULD see more of these events pop up not only in Major League Baseball, but all across the major sports. It’s been a long time coming and I commend the Phillies for hopping aboard the train.
This is a great step in the right direction for sports in general. Very progressive thinking….Can you imagine though if this were 20 years ago, at The Vet, before our country became more acceptant? “Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Philadelphia’s LGBT community, located in Section 715″… Sections 714 & 716 may have turned into a ICBM Launchpad!!!
Eagles should think about Michael Sam. He is still out there… he dropped weight to play CB. Ultra-talented.. teams can get him for a song right now
