The Sixers officially announced on Sunday morning that the team has decided to pick up the options of Joel Embiid, Nik Stauskas, and Jahlil Okafor. It is a fourth-year option for both Embiid and Stauskas and a third-year option for Okafor.
Sort of wild to think that the Embiid is already at the point in his contract where options can be picked up, but there is that sad reality that he did not play his first two seasons as a member of the organization.
Picking up the option of Stauskas was a bit of a surprise, in my opinion. Stauskas, who was the eighth overall pick by the Sacramento Kings back in 2014, became a Sixer via trade back in 2015. He has not lived up to the billing of a top-ten draft pick in his first few seasons in the league, especially during his tenure as a Sixer. During his first season with Philly, he averaged nine points in an average of 25 minutes per game.
The Sixers return to the court on Tuesday when they host the Orlando Magic at 7 p.m.
