The Phillies’ front office staff did not take an early holiday break.
The team announced two roster moves on the Wednesday afternoon before Thanksgiving. The Phillies first announced that they are trading pitcher Jimmy Cordero to NL East rival Washington Nationals for either cash or a player to be named later.
That announcement was shortly followed by another which stated that the Phillies released starting pitcher David Buchanan.
The Phillies designated Cordero for assignment less than one week ago, but now he will be heading to the nation’s capital. Cordero suffered an injury in spring training and worked his way up the minor league levels, but never made it to the big league club in the 2016 campaign.
Buchanan has been with the organization for quite a few years and made 35 starts at the major-league level, however, his stats with the Phillies aren’t anything to write home about.
In 35 starts, 8-17, .320 win pct, 5.01 ERA, 1.51 WHIP. Only Phillies with worse stat lines in last 50 years: Matt Beech & Bill Champion https://t.co/ICBTCAykqE

The Phillies continue to mold the roster into the future vision of Matt Klentak and company.
