There was no other choice, was there? Moments ago, the NBA announced that Joel Embiid won the Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month award for November. The award also includes games played in October.
In the games Embiid has played thus far, he’s averaged 18.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.4 blocked shots. In comparison, the Western Conference Rookie of the Month winner was the Denver Nuggets’ Jamal Murray, netting averages of 10.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game.
As pointed out by Philly Mag’s Derek Bodner, Embiid has had little competition in terms of fellow rookies. Ben Simmons hasn’t played yet, and guys like Brandon Ingram, Jaylen Brown, Dragan Bender, Kris Dunn and Buddy Hield are bench players currently or struggling.
Can Embiid run the table and win the award every month this season? Why the hell not?
