Joel Embiid is still reluctant to unveil his crush.
I think we’re going to have to wait until I’m an All-Star and we’re going to find out when I become one.
Fair enough, let’s get him in the All-Star Game. Vote Joel Embiid!
Besides that, Embiid pretty much revealed all. He hopped onto the 97.5 The Fanatic Morning Show on Tuesday morning to discuss him being a potential All-Star, how he started playing basketball, his favorite moment as a Philadelphia 76er and his goofball personality.
He talked about how his father didn’t want him to play basketball because he thought it was too physical.
I fell in love with basketball at about 13. I was watching the Finals, Lakers against Orlando. My dad didn’t want me to do it, he thought it was too physical. By the time I was 15/16, I had one of my uncles talk to him. That uncle also played basketball.
As you can expect, Hakeem Olajuwon was the player he idolized.
When I started playing basketball, the main guys I look at were Akeem, Pat Ewing, Dirk. Just watching Akeem, I used to repeat his moves all day, every day.
Embiid also joked about the moment during the NBA Draft when ESPN showed him being “mad” when the Sixers selected.
I couldn’t get to the draft, so they had to bring the ESPN crew back to where I was in LA. I was happy, I had a reaction, but obviously on the t.v. there was a tape delay and they showed me mad. I thought it was funny. I used it to be funny.
Speaking of being funny, Embiid is already becoming one of the biggest goofballs in the NBA.
Sometimes, athletes keep their lives away from the fans. I like to have fun and let everyone know what I’m doing.I really don’t care what other people have to say.
What about Embiid’s favorite moment as a Sixer?
My first game, it was amazing. The support the fans gave me, every time I touched the ball they were going crazy.
Hopefully by the end of his career, he’ll leave a plethora of indelible moments.
