The Philadelphia 76ers only needed the month of January to equal what they did all of last season.
Robert Covington had 23 points, 10 rebounds and four steals and the Joel Embiid-less Sixers beat the Sacramento Kings 122-119 in a make-up game following a cancellation between the two teams on Nov. 30 due to condensation of the Well Fargo Center floor.
Embiid missed Monday’s showdown against DeMarcus Cousins and is doubtful for his next two games against the Dallas Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs.
The Sixers didn’t need him on Monday, rallying from a 16-point first half deficit and scoring 42 points in the third quarter. They still let Cousins torch them for 46 points, but Arron Afflalo’s 3-pointer at the horn was off the mark as the hosts held on.
Jahlil Okafor, who’s sat out the last four games due to knee soreness, started in place of Embiid and netted 15 points. Dario Saric put up 17 points and six assists and T.J. McConnell added 12 helpers in the triumph.
Philadelphia went 10-5 in January.
It was 10-72 last season.
