The cash-strapped Philadelphia Eagles are looking to free up some salary cap space this offseason and would like their veteran stalwart left tackle to take a pay cut.
The Eagles have approached Jason Peters about that pay cut, according to ESPN’s Adam Caplan.

The 35-year-old Peters has the highest cap number going into next season at $11.7 million and head coach Doug Pederson has expressed his interest about having Peters return. Peters has two more years remaining on his deal.
Following an injury-plagued 2015 when he struggled in Chip Kelly’s up-tempo offense, Peters bounced back in 2016 after performed a lot more effectively in Pederson’s methodical attack.
Is he worth $11.7 million for his production on the field?
No.
Is he worth $11.7 million for everything he brings to the team?
Yes.
I’d bring him back regardless because not only is he still producing at a high level, he also provides a huge presence in the locker room. It’d be a gift if he decided to help out the team financially.
And the Eagles do need help. They currently have about $7 million in cap space, with $169 million being tied up to cap commitments. As you’d expect, Philly will probably be making a plethora of moves along the roster to create some flexibility with the cap.
Then the fun begins.
