This Week in Cocktails: National Bourbon Day

Bluebird Distilling: Thursday, June 14th is National Bourbon Day. Several restaurants in the city will be celebrating the American whiskey blend. Bluebird Distilling will be giving complimentary tastings of Four Grain Bourbon all day.  The award-winning will be available at the Phoenixville distillery and at the retail store at The Shops at Liberty Place.

Ocean Prime: Center City’s  Ocean Prime will be pouring up its famous Old Fashioned for just $10 on National Bourbon Day. The premier steakhouse’s esteemed cocktail includes Russell’s Reserve Single Barrel—Private Selection made exclusively for, Aperol and Angostura Bitters.

Red Owl Tavern: Red Owl Tavern is an American restaurant and bar located near Independence Mall.  This Thursday, Lead Bartender, Kyle Darrow, will be serving up $5 all day Old Fashioneds. The famous libation includes Old Grand-Dad 100 Proof Bonded. Be sure to pair the cocktail with the tavern’s 48-Hour Pork Ribs or the Short Rib Sandwich, or any other item on the extensive menu.

Square 1682: Square 1682’s Lead Bartender Daniel Kulisek has something special planned forNational Bourbon Day. Come to the modern American restaurant to try his craft cocktail: Beast of Bourbon. Its made with Bulleit Bourbon, lemon, Q Ginger Beer and Von Humboldt Tumeric Liqueur. You can get this blend for just $10.

The Twisted Tail: Come to Headhouse Square’s beloved whiskey bar, restaurant, and live music venue any day of the week. The Twisted Tail has a  Bourbon Club which is free to join. From 5-7 pm, Bourbon lovers can partake in half off any 2 oz. pour of bourbon. There will also be $5 classic bourbon cocktails (excluding whiskeys in the Owner’s Collection). Whether you’re a fan of Manhattan, Old Fashioned, or Whiskey Sours, The Twisted Tail has you covered.

This Week’s Center City Sips Picks: Brickwall Tavern, Concourse Dance Bar, Jane G’s

Each Wednesday between the hours of 5PM-7PM the areas of Avenue of the Arts, Center City East, Center City West, and Rittenhouse Square participate in Center City Sips. Over 80 participating locations have $5 cocktails, $4 wines, $3 beers, and appetizer discounts. Here are this week’s best deals

Brickwall Tavern: Brickwall Tavern is a Sansom Street eatery offering up great pub grub and amazing American cuisine. During City City Sips, come out and try their Brickwall City Wide cocktail. It includes Kenzinger & Shot of Jack Daniels. The establishment will also have $5 Happy Hour Baskets.

Concourse Dance Bar: Come to Concourse Dance Bar for a selection of mixed cocktails. Sips patrons can get $6 Hornitos Tequila or Jack Daniels drinks with a mixer of choice. The wines during Sips include Rose and Pinot Grigio. For beer drinkers enjoy $3 Yuengling Draft and Budweiser, Bud Light, Miller Lite, and Coors Light cans.

Jane G’s:  This Asian infused long noodle heaven has an excellent raw bar and a fantastic wine list. For Center City Sips you can get $3 Tsing Tao, Yards, and Yuengling. The house red and white wines are also a part of the deal. Try anything from their Beef tendons in chili oil to their scrumptious sesame noodles.

Opening This Week: Collins Park Wine Garden

Chaddsford Winery will be opening up shop in Collins Park. Spend your summer evenings at this outdoor beer and wine garden. You’ll be able to sip on Chaddsford wines and Pennsylvania craft beer, on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 4-9pm. Wines are $6 to $8 a glass and PA craft beer cans are $6. Attendees can purchase take-home bottles for $12-$18.

Philadelphia Black Restaurant Week: The first annual Philadelphia Black Restaurant Week runs through Sunday, June 17th. Go to several African-American, African, and Caribbean participating restaurants for amazing and enhanced menus. Some local establishments include Haute Lounge, Rose Petals Cafe and Lounge, and others.

A Taste of Kensington: special eventOn Wednesday, June 13th there will be a to benefit Grensgrow Farms. There will be plenty of farm-to-table dishes that you can sample created by tremendous local chefs, live music, cocktails, and more. The event runs from 6-10 pm.

Parks on Tap: Parks on Tap will be at Belmont Plateau this week. The scenic area will be bursting with lively guest, food trucks, the best brews, and more. On Thursday from 6-7pm, there will be free yoga in the park. On that same day, there will be mountain bike rides through beautiful terrain. The hours for this roaming beer garden are Wednesday and Thursday 5 – 10 pm, Friday 4– 11 pm, Saturday 1- 11 pm, and Sunday 12– 10 pm.

Barks on Tap: Barks on Tap offers up an exciting opportunity to have a beer while your furry friend runs throughout the area making new friends.  The dog-friendly happy hour will be at Schuylkill River Park this week.

Flag Fest 2018: Flag Fest 2018 runs through Saturday, June 16th. The Betsy Ross House will be brimming with several activities all week. There will be free concerts, a pop-up beer garden, a screening of Wonder Woman, a carnival,  and more.

Door 19 Boozy Botanicals: Come to the Academy of Natural Sciences this Thursday for Door 19 Boozy Botanicals from 6-9 pm. The event’s open bar is partnered by Boardroom Spirits Distillery. There will be live jazz, adult games and activities, and exclusive gallery access. with a Roaring 20s theme, guests are encouraged to wear flapper dresses, fedoras, or other in-theme clothing.

Admiral’s Tavern: Independent Seaport Museum’s Admiral’s Tavern extravaganza continues. Every Friday and Saturday from 6-11 pm, you can come lay out on the deck with a great brew in hand. There will be live music, games, and a wide selection of drinks onboard one of the oldest ships in the country.

FringeA-Thon: FringeA-Thon is an all-day dance party that will take place at The Schmidt’s Commons this Saturday night. From 12pm-midnight, the event will be bustling with DJs, dance-offs, stellar music, drinks, and many activities.

Clark Park Music and Arts Festival: Each year, West Philly brings the noise in the annual music festival. Local musicians and artists get a chance to show off their talent in front of an amazing crowd. This year the lineup includes Grandchildren, TJ Kong and the Atomic Bomb, and more will play. There will be plenty of food trucks and activities at the festival. The event is this Saturday from 11 am-6 pm.
