Whether he’s playing in front of 2,000 people or the 70,000 he’ll see Sunday, Carson Wentz said that he never let’s the moment get to him while he’s out on the football field.
Seems hard to believe, huh?
Wentz joined the WIP Morning Show for a few minutes Wednesday to discuss his first NFL start against the Cleveland Browns.
“I know one thing for sure that the moment is not going to shock me. It’s still just football, once the game starts it’s still just the game of football. I’m excited for it and ready to show what I can do,” Wentz said.
He’s not the only one excited.
Wentz explained why as a rookie FCS quarterback he’ll be ready to go on Sunday.
“I feel ever since I got here I felt very confident with things. I feel like I’ve developed at a really fast pace,” he said.
The Browns passed on Wentz during the NFL Draft and a recent report explained that they didn’t think he’d be a top 20 NFL quarterback. Despite a couple of attempts from Angelo Cataldi to get an answer out of him on the matter, Wentz maturely ducked each question.
“I really don’t know,” he said when asked why the Browns passed on him. “I’m just focused on this week and focused on playing the Browns. I’m really excited that I’m an Eagle now and don’t want to be anywhere else.”
Is there any added motivation to beat the Browns?
“I really don’t need extra motivation, I’m pretty motivated itself. I’m really excited for this opportunity,” Wentz said.
Well played.
