What’s happening in Philly this weekend: April 20-22

Events Running Through The Weekend

1. Philadelphia Science Festival

Where: Various locations
When: Friday, April 20th-Saturday, April 28th

Philadelphia Science Festival is set for takeoff this week! There will be several thrilling, informative, and exciting events for every age group in the city. Be ready to be educated and entertained at various institutions and structures in the city. This Friday there Citywide Star Parties which include astronomers leading free star gazing crowds throughout various spots in the city. Another highlight of the weekend is the Fishtown Science Crawl this Sunday. The 21+ crowd can enjoy drink and food specials at many locations in the area.

2. Manayunk Restaurant Week

Where: Various locations
When: Runs through Friday, April 27th

Manayunk Restaurant Week concludes next Friday. Various restaurants and eateries in the city are offering three-course lunches and dinners at $15, $25, and $35 rates. Come stop by this amazing area of the city for some flavorful and savory dishes at a wallet-friendly price.

3. Independence Beer Garden Sneak Peek

Where: Independence Beer Garden, 100 S. Independence Mall W.
When: Friday, April 20th-Sunday, April 22nd

The Independence Beer Garden officially opens next Thursday. However, the popular beer garden will be offering a weekend sneak peek over the next few days. The wait is over for brews, food and snack, lawn games, and all the pleasure that comes from a stop at this popular location.

4. Modern Times: American Art 1910-1950 

Where: Philadelphia Museum of Art, 2600 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy.
When: Runs through Monday, September 3rd

The Philadelphia Museum of Art always offers up spectacular pieces and exhibitions to each guest that peruses through its infamous halls. This week Modern Times: American Art 1910-1950 opens and will herald the work of Georgia O’Keeffe, Marsden Hartley, and Jacob Lawrence. From the skylines to the color choice, come see these beautiful works of art reflecting decades of Americana.

5. Museum of American Revolution Anniversary

Where: Museum of the American Revolution, 101 S. 3rd St.
When: Friday, April 19 &Saturday, April 21st-Sunday, April 22nd

Another frequented institution in the city is the Museum of the American Revolution. The historic collective’s anniversary week is here. There will be free general admission this Thursday from 3 p.m.-8 p.m. The entire weekend will be full of amazing events including the  Philadelphia Orchestra coming out this Sunday for a free and family-friendly musical performance.

6. The Tempest 

Where: Lantern Theater Company, 923 Ludlow St.
When: Runs through Sunday, April 22nd

The Lantern Theater Company’s run of William Shakespeare’s The Tempest will be coming to an end this Sunday. Don’t miss this great production about the power of magic, peril of revenge, and the greatness of poetry. This fantastic production’s talented performers will bring this celebrated tale to life like never before.

7. Get Pegged

Where: FringeArts, 140 N. Columbus Blvd.
When: Friday, April 20th, 10:30PM

FringeArts is known to have features that are confrontational, reshapes boundaries, and crowd-pleasing. The annual cabaret night Get Pegged returns this Friday night. This will be a wonderful night of entertainment, hilarious commentary, and daring delights.

8. Disco Biscuits

Where: The Fillmore Philadelphia, 29 E. Allen St.
When: Thursday, April 19th-Saturday, April 21st

Philadelphia jam band and alternative act Disco Biscuits will be doing a three-night concert stop at The Fillmore Philadelphia this weekend. The band has toured the world and put out fourteen studio albums in their career. Come out for a night of great musicianship and more from this locally cultivated group.

9. Phillies Weekend

Where: Citizens Bank Park, 1 Citizens Bank Way
When: Thursday, April 19th-Sunday, April 22nd

The Philadelphia Phillies will be taking on the Pittsburg Pirates in a four-day home stretch. Fans head on down to Citizens Bank Park this weekend to cheer on the 10-6 club and welcome them home after a massive six-game road schedule. There’s no place to be to enjoy these next few days of sun than at the ballpark.

10. Philadelphia Antique and Arts Show

Where: Navy Yard, 4747 S. Broad St.
When: Friday, April 20th-Sunday, April 22nd

The 2018 Philadelphia Antique and Arts Show is this weekend. The Navy Yard will be packed and bursting with unique and wonderful products. The show will include antiques, textiles, glass works, jewelry, Native American art, and antiquarian books and prints. There will also be many fine art gallery displays.

11. Middle East Galleries at the Penn Museum

Where: Penn Museum, 3260 South St.
When: Saturday, April 21-Sunday, April 22nd

Penn Museum will be opening its Middle East Galleries this weekend. This Saturday the museum will be holding an opening day festival. There will be film screenings, storytime, and the Philadelphia Zoo will be there for a Zoo on Wheels event. bring your entire family out for the drum workshop, an Iraqi football showcase, dancing, a tablet writing class, and more.

12. Brick Fest Live

Where: Greater Philadelphia Expo Center, 100 Station Ave. Oaks, PA
When: Saturday, April 21st-Sunday, April 22nd

Friends and family will be packing into Brick Fest Live this weekend to partake in this spectacular LEGO-themed event. The Brick Fest Live LEGO Fan Experience will have many hands-on attractions including a LEGO glow gallery, a racetrack speedway, video game arena, minigolf, and more. The event wants to set the Guinness World-Record for sized LEGO mystery floor mosaic.

13. Art Is Life Festival

Where: Ridge Ave between Green Lane and Leverington Ave
When: Saturday, April 21st, 12PM-6PM

Arts lovers and creatives come on out to Roxborough this weekend for the Art Is Life Festival. There will be three main music stages, pop up shops, a multitude of vendors, food, drinks, and more. This neighborhood festive celebration will be full of crafters and artist all day. This Saturday, there will also be a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new Mural Arts piece nearby at Roxborough Pocket Park.

14. WMGK Locals Only Beer Festival

Where: Independence Seaport Museum, 211 Christopher Columbus Blvd.
When: Saturday, April 21st, 1PM-5PM

River view scenes, live music, and countless brews are all on the menu at the Independence Seaport Museum this Saturday. WMGK ‘s Locals Only Beer Festival will have some of the best breweries in the area on display. There will be samples up for grabs, prizes and giveaways, food, and more.

15. Rhythm and Brews Festival

Where: 500 and 600 Blocks of Station Ave. Haddon Heights, NJ
When: Saturday, April 21st, 3PM-9PM

For those of you living across the bridge or who don’t mind crossing it, there’s exciting beer and music festival taking place in Haddon Heights this Saturday. There will be several artisan vendors selling crafts, local craft beers, food trucks, and more. This is booming event is in its third year and is rain or shine.

16. Philadelphia Soul vs. Baltimore Brigade

Where: Wells Fargo Center, 3601 S. Broad St.
When: Saturday, April 21st, 7PM

The Philadelphia Eagles aren’t the only champions returning to work this week. The Philadelphia Soul will be playing their second game of the season this Saturday. The arena league champions will be taking on the Baltimore Brigade at the Wells Fargo Center in front of a raucous crowd. Don’t miss your opportunity to see this high-paced sport with your very eyes.

17. Joey Bada$$

Where: Theater of Living Arts,  334 South St. 
When: Saturday, April 21st, 8PM

Brooklyn rapper and Mr. Robot actor Joey Bada$$ will be bringing The Amerikkkana Tour to the Theater of Living Arts this Saturday night. The tour supports his 2017 album release All-Amerikkkan Bada$$. Come see the “Devastated”, “Land of the Free” rapper this weekend.

18. Earth Day Celebrations

Where: Various locations
When: Sunday, April 22nd

Earth Day is this Sunday. Several museum, institutions, and organizations in the city will be celebrating the globe-loving holiday. The Academy of Natural Sciences and the National Constitution Center will be hosting several interactive and engrossing events all day. Across the city, there will be dog walks, cleanups, and more.

19. Murder at the Mütter: Illusion

Where: Mutter Museum, 19 S. 22nd St.
When: Sunday, April 22nd, 2PM-6PM

Forensic science savants and natural inquisitors come forward. The Mütter Musem will be hosting a murder mystery party this Sunday. Guest will be able to put on their crime scene investigator caps to solve the cause of the victim’s murder. You’ll be given clues and tips from real forensic scientists in the building.
