We mentioned earlier how Donovan McNabb got nabbed with his second DUI in Arizona back in June, which was made public today. Even though that was his second time and he likely will get punished for his criminal activity, a local guy would like everyone to look the other way.
On with Josh Innes on WIP today, Howard Eskin [after completely thrashing Jonathan Papelbon and disemboweling him as a human being – full audio of that here] talked about McNabb for a bit, and said he hopes #5’s employer, FOX Sports, doesn’t punish him for putting his life and others’ lives at risk.
Some quotes:
“He’s gotten moved up in the broadcast teams. He was on the lowest broadcast team for FOX. He got moved up for this year, I don’t know how far he went up [or] what team he’s on. I’m hoping that FOX doesn’t do anything to him because I’d like to see him become successful.”
Quoting Dusty Baker: “He says, ‘You don’t wanna mess with those cops in Arizona. He said, ‘I always told my players ‘you gotta be really careful out here because they don’t care who you are.'”
Then Eskin admitted he drove under the influence and got stopped, but didn’t suffer any penalty for DUI. Some craziness going on right there, honestly. Innes then asked about Eskin’s weight and the conversation kind of spun off to something else.
According to the law in Arizona, McNabb should face these penalties:
-Up to 6 months in jail. [At least 90 days]
-Fine anywhere between $500-$2,500.
-A blowing machine in order to start his car for at least a year.
-30 hours of community service, and attending driving school.
-License revocation for one year.
Unfortunately for McNabb, he’s done so poorly in drives during crunch time, I’m not so sure he won’t get a weak stomach when trying to parallel park.
Something tells me if it was Sam Hinkie getting a DUI, Eskin would not sleep until the Sixers fired him. I’m pretty sure he would even have a “March to Fire Hinkie” summit outside of the Wells Fargo Center every day until Hinkie is gone. Or better yet, if Papelbon was the one behind the wheel. Then we’d be in for nuclear war, I’d imagine.
So, should FOX Sports punish McNabb for his second DUI, or let him walk away because of who he is like Eskin seemingly wants?
I heard his comments live and I was immediately left scratching my head at the next red light. Listen I don’t have an opinion one way or another on McNabb, but to say that one hopes that his employer doesn’t come down on him too hard for a SECOND offense of this nature is mind numbing. You or I would have been removed after our first!
