We’re 13 days away from the start of Eagles training camp. It feels like it’s been forever [and, really, it has because the sports teams in this city have made it feel that way].
-Jeff Francoeur had himself a weekend, helping the Phillies sweep the Marlins with a walkoff homerun yesterday. The Phillies are now on pace to finish the second half of the season undefeated. And I’m the 29,873rd person to make that joke. [CSN Philly]
-Something’s wrong with Cole Hamels. His focus is probably a little shot with so much uncertainty regarding his future, so I can’t really blame him as a human. But as a professional athlete, he’s really decreasing his stock with his recent pitching performances, and yesterday was no different. Or maybe he was just nervous because the Vice President of the Red Sox was there watching. [ESPN.com]
[And according to Buster Olney, the Dodgers are the frontrunners for Hamels.]
-The Mets and Cardinals played in what was likely the worst 18-inning game in MLB history yesterday. [MLB.com]
-PFT’s Mike Florio on how Tom Brady would sue the NFL. [Pro Football Talk]
-Packers fans came out in droves for Brett Favre’s Packer Hall of Fame ceremony on Saturday night. [The Big Lead]
-A surfer in South Africa, Mick Fanning, was attacked by a shark and lived to talk about it. [ESPN.com] Video here.
-A bunch of cars caught fire in the parking lot in Detroit during yesterday’s Tigers-Orioles game. [The Big Lead]
-Nice penalty, ref. [Deadspin]
-Zack Greinke is doing ridiculous things. [Bleacher Report]
-The Nuggets’ Ty Lawson, who is currently in rehab for alcohol abuse, has been traded to the Rockets. [The Big Lead]
-Really creepy. [Jezebel]
-Donald Trump may have surpassed me as being the biggest idiot alive. [AP]
-The Flyers signed Michael Del Zotto to a two-year deal. Not a bad signing given how MDZ played last season, but Hextall still has a lot of cap work to do. [CBS Philly]
