Chip Kelly’s “Scientists and Stuff” Does Nothing for Former Jet Bart Scott

NFL Today contributor and former Jet, Bart Scott, put his intelligence on the line during a radio appearance on the Joe and Evan Show on 660 WFAN in New York recently. Apparently it’s OK for Brian Billick, who was Scott’s head coach when he was with the Ravens, to think he’s the smartest guy in the world [simply because he played for him, apparently], but it’s not OK for Chip Kelly to think that. In his third season in the NFL. After accumulating 20 wins.

Take it away, Scott.

“I’m rooting for the Jets,” said Scott, “and not just because I played for the Jets, but because I love a good car crash. I love a good accident waiting to happen. You have one guy who thinks he’s the smartest guy in the world. Trust me, I played for Brian Billick, so I’m used to being around guys that believe that they’re really smart, and Brian was. But come on now, are you kidding me? This guy needs to figure out what time to get a protein shake because obviously he’s giving the protein shakes at the wrong time, with his scientists and stuff that he has back there, because his teams aren’t ready to play in the first half.”

Let it be known that Andy Reid’s teams historically started almost every game down 7-0. Whether they received the ball first or not. So, for two games, I’m willing to give Chip a little leeway about the slow starts his team is having. Sure, they’re supposed to be the most fit team in the league, so to speak, but I wouldn’t get too concerned about their slow starts – it’s their terrible finishes I would be more concerned about. But, Scott has his agenda. Let’s hear what else he has to say:

“He can’t win. You know why he can’t win? Because you can’t win and tell people that you devalue great players and get rid of them just because you want to. So I think there’s a little bit of karma coming back to him. Nelson Agholor hasn’t replaced Jeremy Maclin. Jeremy Maclin was a class act guy. You can’t just replace people like they’re things, you know what I mean? Like they’re toys that you’re tired of playing with because you want something new. So I hope that he loses. I hope he loses every game.”

I’ve seen this mentioned all around the Internet and I completely agree – all 32 teams in the NFL do the same exact thing Kelly has done in regards to overhauling their rosters. New head coaches get rid of players all the time, but when Chip does it, it’s front page news simply because there’s an inherent believe among NFL insiders that you can’t get rid of your star players. Chip won 10 games without DeSean. He still has a chance to win 14 games without LeSean McCoy, Evan Mathis and Jeremy Maclin. He’s under fire right now because of the Eagles’ 0-2 start, nothing more. Scott has a right to believe what he wants, but when it makes him sound ridiculous when he thinks he’s smarter than he actually is, it turns to entertainment.

Oh, and Scott isn’t above fat shaming, either.

Sounds like a swell guy. But, really, I’ll always love this.
