Scott Laughton is riding high right now after earning a spot on the Philadelphia Flyers opening night roster on the third line.
When you have as impressive of a camp as he had, you get to do whatever you want. O.K., maybe not whatever you want, but you can change your number. That’s exactly what Laughton did as he returns to his old No. 21 – once worn by James van Riemsdyk – leaving his No. 49 behind him.
For what it’s worth, it also adds credibility to his Twitter handle @Laughts21. The last time Laughton wore that number was when he made his first big league roster with the Flyers in 2012-13 for five games.
So it’s only fitting to go back to the number you wore the first time you laced up in the orange and black.
