Nick Cafardo first reported the Phillies will hire the Angels assistant general manager, Matt Klentak, as the heir to Ruben Amaro, Jr.
Now, most of the respected baseball writers are reporting it.
Klentak worked with Andy MacPhail in Baltimore as the director of baseball operations, so it’s not a shock at all if this report is true – which there’s no reason to believe it’s not. Klentak was among three finalists for the job with Dan Kantovitz and Chaim Bloom [which is an AWESOME name]. Unfortunately for her, it was another blow to Kim Ng, who could’ve been the first female general manager in MLB.
The Phillies are expected to make the announcement before Game 1 of the World Series on Tuesday. Full disclosure: I expect this move to result in Mike Trout’s eventual trade to the Phillies. Because why the hell not?
