Your NFC East Report: Week 7

Week six is in the rear view mirror for the Philadelphia Eagles and the rest of their division rivals in the NFC East. So where does each team currently stand in the division and what should you look for this upcoming week? I’ve got you covered in this week’s NFC East Report for the seventh week of the regular season!

Standings

Once again, there’s a new team atop the NFC East. This time it’s the Philadelphia Eagles, sitting in first place for the first time this season. But how long will their reign last? After out-trying the New York Giants in a primetime slopfest, neither team looks rather scary. While the Dallas Cowboys are coming off a bye week and will only get better once Tony Romo and Dez Bryant return. Lastly, the Washington Redskins are well…the Redskins. Damn it, I can’t say that, they freakin’ beat the Eagles this season! But let’s just pretend that never happened and talk about this upcoming week in the NFC East.

Philadelphia Eagles (3-3)

Well, well, well…after an awful start to the season, Chip Kelly appears to have his birds under control and heading in the right direction. But are the Eagles just the best of the worst in the NFC East or are they legitimate contenders in the NFC? We may know sooner than later since they’ll travel down south to play the undefeated Carolina Panthers on Sunday Night Football this weekend. There may not be a more impressive team in the NFL right now than these cats but the Eagles could put their name on the map once again with a primetime victory over one of the league’s last remaining undefeated teams.

Next Game: @ Carolina Panthers, Sunday, October 25th, 8:30 PM EST

New York Giants (3-3)

Talk about a reality check, the Giants were just downright awful against the Eagles. While both teams played rather poorly, the Giants brought it to a whole different level. Eli Manning was scared behind an exposed offensive line and the defense kept shooting themselves in the foot (shout-out to Plaxico Burress!). Now they’re set to take on the Cowboys once again in another important divisional showdown. Considering how much they struggled against the Eagles’ shaky pass rush, it’ll be interesting to see how they hold up against Greg Hardy and company this Sunday.

Next Game: vs. Dallas Cowboys, Sunday, October 25th, 4:25 PM EST

Dallas Cowboys (2-3)

Since Tony Romo was obliterated by Jordan Hicks and Brandon Weeden was forced to start, the Cowboys have lost three consecutive games. But don’t worry, Matt Cassel is on his way to save the day! Seriously, Cowboys’ fans honestly think he is going to somehow make everything better.

“It’s a new day in Dallas” might be the cutest thing I’ve heard all season. The Cowboys will rely on their defense to keep them in games until Romo and Bryant return. Cassel or whoever else they may play at quarterback in Romo’s absence won’t win them any games. They just gotta not suck enough to lose them a game, that seems simple enough…right? Well their quest to stay alive in the division could take a drastic turn for better or for worse this Sunday against the Giants.

Next Game: @ New York Giants, Sunday, October 25th, 4:25 PM EST

Washington Redskins (2-4)

The Redskins were manhandled by the New York Jets this past Sunday. They were outplayed in basically every facet of the game and look like a team that isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. But somehow they’re still relevant in the NFC East, even at 2-4, because the rest of the division is awful. Despite their struggles, the Redskins may stand a chance this weekend as they’ll host the equally atrocious Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With a win, the Redskins will live another week in the race for first place in the NFL’s second worst division (hello NFC South!).

Next Game: vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Sunday, October, 25th, 1:00 PM EST
