UPDATED: NFL Trade Deadline News

We will be updating you on all of the latest NFL Trade Deadline information and rumors as the day goes on, so be sure to keep checking back for the latest!

UPDATE: 5:00 P.M.

Looks like there were no big moves and the Eagles didn’t do anything. Not sure that’s the best move for Chip Kelly and his team, but they do have Nelson Agholor and Kiko Alonso returning to the field this weekend, so maybe those two are their big pickups?

Yeah, I know. I’m grasping.

Vinny Curry and other DE’s on the move?

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the most active trade market right now is at defensive end, as players such as Vinny Curry (Eagles), Willie Young (Bears) and Jeremy Mincey (Cowboys) are all available right now.

Curry and Young have come up numerous times in recent weeks as potential trade options for NFL teams. However, this is the first we’ve heard about Mincey possibly being traded.

In fact, Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports recently reported that Young, who previously requested a traded, still wants to be traded to a 4-3 team.

Young, 30, is in the second year of his three-year, $9 million contract that included $3.95 million guaranteed. He stands to make base salaries of $2.45 million in each of the next two years.

According to OverTheCap.com, trading Young would free up $2.5 million in available cap space next year while creating $666,668 in dead money.

This season, Young has appeared in five games recorded just three tackles including one sack for the Bears. In 2014, Young managed to produce 9.5 sacks for Chicago and looked like a great addition.

We’ll have more regarding a potential trade involving Young as the news is available.

Joseph Randle Out in Dallas

Clarence Hill is reporting that the Cowboys have placed RB Joseph Randle on waivers Tuesday.

This is somewhat surprising news, given that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said that Randle’s roster spot was not in jeopardy right now, despite him being excused from the team while he deals with a personal issue.

Todd Archer and Adam Schefter first reported that Randle was facing discipline for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

Randle met with NFL investigators this summer and within regarding  an incident that occurred in Wichita, Kansas back in February, where Randle was arrested for unlawful possession of marijuana after police received a call for domestic violence with a weapon after an incident with Randle and the mother of his son.

The mother of Randle’s son said he broke a car window in an argument and threatened her with a gun with their son nearby. However, charges were later dropped, but he still faces sanctions from the NFL. The NFL has conducted their own investigation into the matter.

This was the second arrest for Randle in a matter of four months.

Randle, 23, is in the third year of his four-year, $2.349 million rookie contract that included a $188,820 signing bonus. He stands to make base salaries of $585,000 and $675,000 over the next two years.

This season, Randle has appeared in six games and ran for 313 yards on 76 carries (4.1 YPC) to go along with 10 receptions for 87 yards receiving and four touchdowns.

Eric Weddle Update

Michael Gehlken of the Union-Tribune writes that despite reports that the Chargers were fielding trade offers for Pro Bowl S Eric Weddle, it’s unlikely that any deal will be made before the 4 pm EST deadline.

49ers to sign Pierre Thomas

Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post reports that the 49ers are signing veteran RB Pierre Thomas to a contract on Tuesday.

Thomas, 30, had two years remaining on his three-year, $6.9 million contract when the Saints elected to release him in a move that freed up $1.735 million in available cap space.

He was, arguably, the best running back still available, and had worked out for the Chiefs in Texans since the start of the season.

The 49ers brought him in for a tryout a few weeks ago, so he was clearly on their radar.

In 2014, Thomas ran for 222 yards on 45 carries (4.9 YPC) to go along with 45 receptions for 378 yards receiving and three touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 9 running back in the league out of 57 qualifying players.

Mike Glennon on the move?

Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports that the Buccaneers are not fielding trade offers from other teams for back QB Mike Glennon. According to Stroud, Buccaneers GM Jason Licht won’t deal Glennon for a mid-round pick.

Glennon has been a popular name in trade rumors for awhile now. However, all indications have been that Tampa Bay prefers to keep him as their backup, given that he’s under contract through 2016 at a reasonable salary.

The Jets were suggested as a potential suitor after Ryan Fitzpatrick and Geno Smith both sustained injuries, but it sounds like this won’t be happening.

Glennon, 25, is in the third year of his four-year, $3.104 million rookie contract that included a $637,500 signing bonus. He’ll make reasonable base salaries of $687,188 and $675,000 over the next two years.

Last year, Glennon appeared in six games for the Buccaneers and threw for 1,417 yards while completing 57.6 percent of his passes to go along with 10 touchdowns and six interceptions.

Barkevious Mingo for a 3rd round pick

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Browns are also looking for a third-round pick in return for former first-round pick OLB Barkevious Mingo.

Previous reports have said that Mingo is available ahead of today’s deadline along with OLB Paul Kruger. However, there hasn’t been a lot of buzz since then regarding Mingo or Kruger being dealt.

Mingo, 25, is in the third year of his four-year, $16.347 million contract that included a $10.268 million signing bonus. He’ll make a base salary of $585,000 this season and another $675,000 in 2016.

The Browns also have the ability to exercise his fifth-year option, but it’s unlikely they would do so, considering that they’re reportedly willing to trade him.

This season, Mingo has appeared in eight games and recorded 16 tackles, no sacks, one interception and four pass defenses.

Jets trading for Kaepernick?

Rich Cimini of ESPN writes the Jets potentially pursuing a trade for 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick is “not out of the question.”

Cimini points out that the Jets could bring Kaepernick in for the remainder of the season without having to make a long-term commitment to him, seeing as they could move on next year with limited repercussions if it didn’t work out.

Recent reports have said the the Jets are exploring trades for quarterbacks along with free agent options now that Ryan Fitzpatrick and Geno Smith are both dealing with injuries.

Cimini admits that the 49ers probably could get more for Kaepernick by waiting to the offseason, but their decision to bench him the day before the trade deadline is a curious move to say the least.

According to Cimini, Jets GM Mike Maccagnan isn’t afraid of high-profile moves, and bringing in a quarterback could end up being “a game-changer, a season-changer and, potentially, a franchise-changer” for the team.

Of course, it’s more likely that the Jets won’t complete a trade for a quarterback, and will instead sign an available free agent such as Matt Flynn, who was with the team a few months ago.

Kaepernick, 27, is in the second year of his seven-year, $126.97 million contract that included $61 million guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $12.4 million for the 2015 season.

While those numbers are impressive on their own, the contract is essentially a pay-as-you-go agreement that includes ways for San Francisco to walk away with limited repercussions.

$14 million of Kaepernick’s deal will become guaranteed in April of next year, which gives San Francisco ample time to consider all of their available options. It’s worth mentioning that parting ways with Kaepernick would create $7 million in dead money for the 49ers.

In eight games this season, Kaepernick has thrown for 1,615 yards while completing 59.3 percent of his passes to go along with six touchdowns and five interceptions. He’s also added 228 yards rushing and a touchdown.

We’ll have more regarding potential trades as the news is available.

Broncos want Joe Thomas

According to Grossi, the Broncos were willing to part with their 2016 first-round pick in the deal, but the Browns wanted LB Shaq Barrett, which reportedly killed the deal.

Grossi mentions that Thomas is likely the only player on their roster capable of netting them a future first-round pick.

Denver lost LT Ryan Clady and rookie OT Ty Sambrailo for the season, so they could really use a solid blindside protector moving forward.

  • ESPN’s Chris Mortensen report last night that the Browns are open for business and willing to trade Thomas. if a team is willing to part with a “bounty of picks” for him.
  • Jason La Canfora has yet to hear anything substantive regarding the Browns trade Thomas.
  • However, La Canfora admits that the Browns remain “largely open for business” otherwise ahead of tomorrow’s trade deadline.

Thomas, 30, has been a Hall-of-Fame caliber offensive tackle since the Browns drafted him. He still has another four years remaining on his eight-year, $92 million contract that included $44 million guaranteed.

Thomas stands to make base salaries of $8.8 million (2015), $8.3 million (2016), and $8.8 million (2017-2018)

This season, Thomas has appeared in all eight games for the Browns and is currently rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 2 offensive tackle out of 78 qualifying players.

Titans fire Ken Whisenhunt

The Tennessee Titans announced Tuesday that they’ve fired HC Ken Whisenhunt.

After thoughtful consideration, the decision has been made to relieve Ken Whisenhunt of his head coaching duties,” said Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk. “We have expected more progress on the field, and I felt it was time to move in a different direction. I would like to thank Ken for his efforts with our team, as he worked very hard to try to move us forward.”

However, a Charger spokesperson reached out to Pro Football Talk to deny all of the rumors.

Alex Mack staying in Cleveland

“Browns C Alex Mack distributed a statement to the media Monday explaining that he won’t waive his no-trade clause, and will instead remain with the team for the remainder of the season.

“I have a ‘no trade’ clause in my contract,” Mack said. “It was included for a good reason: I’m not leaving my teammates, coaches and Browns fans while there is work this season to be finished.”

Reports from earlier in the day indicated that Mack could be the most notable player on the move at the trade deadline, if a contender was willing to make an attractive offer to the Browns.

Mack, 29, is technically in the second year of his five-year, $42 million contract that included $26 million guaranteed. However, the contract gives him the ability to opt out next year.

He’ll make a base salary of $8 million (2015), $8 million (2016), and $8 million (2017-18) over the remainder of the agreement. It’s worth mentioning that Mack has a no-trade clause.

This year, Mack has also appeared in all seven games and is rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 13 center out of 35 qualifying players.”
