“That’s why New York kicked you out, yo!”
Apparently, that line was all it took to set Cleveland Cavalier’s J.R. Smith off. Per a New York Daily News report, J.R. Smith would proceed to check “the teen against the building and put his hands around the high school student’s neck.” The teen, Justin Brown, told the police that he started heckling Smith for ignoring his request for a photo.
A police report was filed three days after the incident, but Smith has yet to be arrested for the “alleged” incident. Smith’s lawyer, Alex Spiro told the New York Daily News that the allegations against Smith were false. An NBA spokesman has stated that “We are aware of the reports and are in the process of obtaining more information.”
We’ll have to wait for more details to come out about this but, let me say these two things:
First, kids can be really dumb at times. They have big mouths. Brown admitted that he was heckling Smith. That wasn’t wise. He should’ve left him alone. It’s never good to provoke people because you never know what the other person is capable of.
Secondly, if this “alleged” incident is true, regardless of what might’ve been said to Smith from the 19-year old, there’s no excuse for him to put his hands on the teen.
The athletes these days are mind-boggling to me. They have all of this money thrown at them and yet, some always find a way to screw up their situation by being undisciplined.
J.R. Smith took to twitter to make this comment.
We shall see in the coming weeks how this one plays out.
