Steve Mason is the latest Philadelphia Flyers player to go through a “maintenance day.”
Both Dave Hakstol and Ron Hextall wouldn’t comment any further on the specifics, just that Mason went through a maintenance day.
There’s also no clue as to what the reasoning could be behind the absence since there really wasn’t ever a time that Mason appeared injured against Carolina.
He’s the latest Flyer to go through a maintenance day, with Mark Streit being the most recent and guys like R.J. Umberger and Michal Neuvirth also having that label attached to them. Over the weekend, Streit’s maintenance day turned into a six-week injury for a “pubic plate detachment.” Umberger also has missed the past couple of games.
It’s not official, but expect Neuvirth to be in net tonight against the Los Angeles Kings.
UPDATE: Neuvirth is out tonight with an upper-body injury. These goalies are having a hard time staying healthy. Mason will start.
