Video: Sidney Crosby Takes Cross-Check to the Neck

Philadelphia’s most hated hockey athlete, Sidney Crosby, took a dangerous cross-check to the back of the neck from the Columbus Blue Jackets’ Brandon Dubinsky on Friday night.

Mind you, Crosby has had issues with a soft-tissue injury to his neck in the past, and there’s no way Dubinsky didn’t know that. Here’s the video:

Here’s a closer look at it.

Dubinsky had this to say after the game:

“There’s no secret. I try to play him as hard as I can. That being said, I don’t try and do anything dirty. I felt like my stick rode up his back a little bit. He’s kind of bent over there in front. But again, that’s not the type of player I am. I’m going to play hard, but try and play fair and play in between the whistle. I think the stick rode up a little bit, but it wasn’t malicious or vicious or too hard in my opinion…I’m not out there to injure anybody. I’m not out there to hurt him.”

On the other end of the cross check, Crosby wasn’t in the best of moods after the game.

“Honestly, I didn’t even see it, so I didn’t know how it looked. I just know how it felt,” Crosby said. “I’m not surprised. If I was going to get one of those shots it would probably be from him.”

The Penguins’ general manager, Jim Rutherford, was none too pleased with the hit.

But, perhaps the most interesting take on the hit, was from former NHL goon, Matthew Barnaby.

Well Matthew, on Saturday, the NHL suspended Dubinsky for one game with no pay for the cross-check.

What are your thoughts on the cross-check? Dirty or not?
