Per a source, Dion Waiters wants to head home this summer to play for the Sixers.
“He wants to come home,” said the source, noting that Waiters is from South Philly. “Plus, he knows that he could be the missing shooting guard they need. And he could possibly get a very lucrative contract with the Sixers.”
Well, not so fast. We then have this to consider.
“Dion has made it clear that he feels he has found a basketball home in Oklahoma City and is committed to being a part of the culture that exists,” Thunder general manager Sam Presti said in a statement published by The Oklahoman earlier this month. “The team sees him as someone who has his best basketball in front of him as has the potential to be a contributor for years to come with more to develop in our program.”

Oh, so he doesn’t want to come? But, wait:
“He really would like that, to come home. He talked about getting a place downtown not too far from the arena so playing at home would be less of a distraction.”
Waiters to Philly rumors have existed since his initial unhappiness with his role in Cleveland. It got to the point in Cleveland where he thought he was better than Kyrie Irving and got into a fight with him in the locker room. Waiters tends to be ineffective (Career .415% shooter) with a an inflated sense of his own skill set. However, would he be a better option than what the Sixers currently have? Absolutely!

There is no chance in this world that Waiters should or would ever get a LeBron-type max contract. Under those terms? No, thank you! We don’t need to revert back to the paying superstar money for mid level players type of deals that plagued the Sixers for years, and put us in the position we are in now. I’m also wary of anyone that allows this to happen.

So for now, I’ll take a page from the book of LeBron and pass (or don’t pass) on Waiters.

Does the Philly Roller Derby need any extra bodies?
Steve Albert just went to break by saying "Dion Waiters, also an awesome roller skater".

Let us know if you’d like to see Waiters in a Sixers jersey in the comments and on social media.
