It was announced on Thursday, that Coldplay and “multiple acts” will perform at halftime of Super Bowl 50 from San Francisco. Does this news excite you? The last three halftime performers have been Beyoncé, Bruno Mars and last year it was Katy Perry. Ever since the Justin Timberlake/Janet Jackson “waldrobe malfunction” stunt at Super Bowl XXXVIII between Carolina and New England, there has been extra scrutiny to these halftime performances.
Coldplay is definitely a safe choice to perform – though we don’t know yet what other acts will accompany them on stage will be. Believe it or not – Coldplay is still unknown to many. They’re a British rock band that formed in 1996. They’ve won seven Grammy awards out of 25 nominations. The song that really put them on the map with mainstream America was “Viva La Vida” from 2008.
That song was no doubt a classic, but the reaction to this Super Bowl halftime announcement has been met with mixed reviews so far.
From the positive…
I dig that new #Coldplay song. Good call by the #NFL for the @SuperBowl halftime show. Yes, go ahead because you hate everything. Lol
