The Goldbergs has been one of the best television shows in recent memory, and I’m not just saying that because of the ties the creator, Adam Goldberg (@adamfgoldberg), has to Philadelphia [he was born in Philly and grew up in Jenkintown]. Sure, the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers and Sixers are a big part of the show, but it’s funny and the storytelling is never dull.
Case in point when Barry and his girlfriend, Lainey, decided that their dads should meet. Not a good outcome. Lianey’s dad is a Cowboys fan, Barry’s dad is an Eagles fan. It makes for some good television. And it’s amazingly accurate. Goldberg knows Philly. And I’ve covered that throughout the last few years.
In the episode slated to air tomorrow night at 8:30 P.M. on ABC, the mother, Beverly, become the Eagles’ good luck charm.
In this exclusive sneak peek clip from The Goldbergs episode “Double Dare,” Mama Goldberg is finally allowed into the family’s living room during the Eagles’ big game against the Steelers — and not just to wipe up Murray’s (Jeff Garlin) spilled beer, either. When Barry (Troy Gentile) picks up on the fact that the Birds do well every time Bev is in the room, he calls her in to prove his point. One Bradshaw sack later and Barry’s convinced, but his skeptical dad thinks the team’s good fortune comes from his own lucky Eagles jersey and underpants.
