Howard Eskin: I Think Tom Coughlin Will Be the Next Head Coach of the Eagles

Howard Eskin, who shot down Paul Domowitch’s report that Jon Gruden was interested in the Eagles’ head coaching job before Domo doubled down on his report on Sunday night, was a guest on Angelo Cataldi’s morning show on WIP today. Obviously, they talked about the Eagles’ search for a head coach, and Eskin dropped this semi-bombshell during the interview.

Eskin said that he believes Coughlin will be the next head coach of the Eagles for a multitude of reasons. The first one is that he would come in and set up the next head coach before either moving on or retiring from coaching. His feeling is that Giants offensive coordinator, Ben McAdoo, will replace Coughlin wherever he goes, because he thinks Coughlin will take him wherever he lands. So it sort of sounds like it’s becoming a package deal with Coughlin and McAdoo.

Eskin also noted that despite Coughlin meeting with Jeffrey Lurie before his actual interview yesterday, Coughlin isn’t looking for full personnel control and just wants to coach football. It’s pretty much the same thing Chip Kelly said when he became the head coach three years ago, before wanting full control.

Second on Eskin’s list is Pat Shurmur for some reason. He didn’t really list any good reasons for retaining Shurmur, but the players seem to like him and that might go a long way for Lurie to get back his “player’s coach” that Andy Reid was so known for during his time here.

In Eskin’s opinion, if nothing changes in the next two years regarding the success of the football team, heavy changes will be made in the front office, which likely means the ousting of Howie Roseman from his current role.

I can’t decide whether I’m excited or scared right now.

Audio coming soon.

Does anyone think Coughlin will put 100% effort in beating the Giants twice a year? I think his Giant blood still remains!
Why are the Eagles not interviewing Sean McDermott? He was trained by the Master of Defense, Jim Johnson! And he has publicly stated that he is interested in the HC job with the Eagles?

He is still in the playoffs so I think they have to wait until they’re out or if they win the whole thing then after that. I wouldn’t do any interviews even if I was allowed to until my season was over.
