Well, that’s certainly something in terms of Jason Peters’ confidence, isn’t it? Speaking with reporters in the locker room after the game, Peters basically said he was the best player in the locker room.
So, I wonder if this rubs anyone in the locker room the wrong way? I mean, I’m sure Peters’ teammates probably won’t disagree with him because he’s had a great career. A great season, though? Nah. I’m not sure Peters is the best player in the locker room right now. So, that’s interesting for him to bring that up if he really believes it.
Of course, Peters’ cap hit is more than $9 million next season, and if he was to be released, the cap hit goes down to $3 million. He’s had a rather uneventful season and is getting older. Getting rid of him might be a step backward, but if rebuilding the offensive line is a priority, which it should be to any coach coming in, then they might just start from scratch.
Or, they might keep Peters and work around other guys. I wouldn’t be mad if they said bye to Peters, but I wouldn’t be pissed if they decided to keep him, either. But, he sure as hell thinks there’s nobody better than him in the locker room, so why would the team get rid of him?
That might be the same exact thing Chip Kelly thought.
