We’ve seen Mike Trout dominate on the baseball field, but what some don’t know is that off the field Trout is just as amazing of a person. He recently demonstrated this when he visited a New Jersey family that lost much of what it had in a house fire. He spent part of his Christmas Eve trying to cheer the family up.
Days before Christmas the DeSimone’s family home in Buena Vista Township caught fire, but thankfully for them Tony DeSimone woke up to the sound of smoke alarms going off throughout his home. The children were off at school during that time.
Families from the kids’ school, Edgarton Christian Academy, generated about $1,250 in donations for the family. Trout, who grew up in nearby Millville heard of the family’s story and that’s when he stepped in and visited the family bearing gifts.

Barbara DeSimone spoke about the whole ordeal.
“Your house burns down, you don’t have anything for Christmas, and all these people are giving, giving, giving, then bam! Mike Trout comes. It’s like Santa Claus arrived.”
Tony DeSimone had nothing but positive things to say about Trout.
“You see how a lot of stars are in this day and age; they don’t remember where they came from,” he said. “But Mike, he’s a true ambassador of Major League Baseball. He remembers where he came from, and he really helps the people in this area.”
Trout the 24 year old native of New Jersey is signed with the Los Angeles Angels until 2020. That gives the Phillies fours years to get their act together, so that when Trout becomes a free-agent he can come back home. Yeah, yeah I know that isn’t realistic, but one can dream, right?
