In a fascinating turn of events, the New York Giants have granted permission to the 49ers to interview Tom Coughlin, per Mike Garafalo. It could be nothing more than a coincidence, but the cynic in me thinks that the Giants are trying to make sure that Coughlin doesn’t end up the Eagles’ head coach.
Coughlin is set to interview for the Eagles’ head coaching vacancy today. If yesterday’s back cover of the New York Daily News is any indication of how the Giants organization feels about a potential move from Coughlin to Philly, it would make total sense that they grant as many teams as possible the right to interview Coughlin.
Interesting development: The Giants have granted the 49ers permission to interview Tom Coughlin, source tells @FS1.

Teams need to request permission to interview Coughlin because Coughlin was technically not fired, but rather resigned with a year left on his deal with the Giants.
So what do you think? Are the Giants scared of Coughlin landing in Philly? Let us know on social media and in the comments section.
