Kevin Bacon Playing Benefit for Construction of Viaduct Rail Park

The Bacon Brothers, comprised of Philly natives Michael and Kevin Bacon, will be playing a benefit concert at Union Transfer tomorrow, February 4th, in support of the Viaduct Rail Park.

The Reading Viaduct was built in 1893 as part of the Reading Terminal.  It was a 13-track rail, the largest single-span train shed of its time.  It closed in 1984 with the opening of Philadelphia’s Center City Commuter Tunnel.

If you venture to the abandoned viaduct today, you will find graffiti-stricken train shed ruins occupied by overgrown grass and crushed beer cans.  The Center City District in partnership with Friends of the Rail Park plan to transform the viaduct into a desperately needed city park.

Rob Grote, member of The Districts, who’s also from the Philadelphia area, is opening for The Bacon Brothers performance which is set to begin at 8 P.M Thursday night.

All proceeds will go to funding the Rail Park’s phase 1 construction.
