We all know that Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins is about to get paid long-term to be the franchise’s guy. We all know he had a pretty good year. We know we’d probably take him right now as the Eagles’ quarterback. However, would you pay him Drew Brees/Cam Newton/Ben Roethlisberger money? I sure as hell wouldn’t. I guess the Redskins disagree with me, however:
The Redskins will work out a multi-year deal with quarterback Kirk Cousins, saving them from using the franchise tag. Both sides want a long-term contract, and even though they’re not close to anything now, by free agency they will have it worked out. The best guess for how much it’ll be worth per year: around $18 million-$20 million. –John Keim“
Hey, Redskins – just wait until you drop back to the bottom of the division because you were too quick to pay a young QB who had one good season. Then the rest of the NFC East will be yelling:
End of the day, even in relief of RG3, he was nearly as effective as RG3 as their backup qb. Bradford is banking on inflated qb contracts to get somewhere around that too. If yhe Eagles were to franchise him, he’d get $20+ million because 2016 qb payouts are $20-22 million. 2015 was higher because of Roethlisberger getting $35 million from his contract & Newton getting $30+ million.
