After coming in 10th place in Iowa and then posting a sixth-place finish in Tuesday’s New Hampshire primary, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is expected to formally suspend his presidential campaign as early as today, according to multiple reports.
We bet the ranch on New Hampshire, and no one ever anticipated the Trump phenomenon,β a source familiar with Christie’s plans told ABC News. βHeβs a realist.β
In other words, Christie drops.
Christie’s once-promising presidential bid became derailed beginning with the Bridgegate scandal, and his recent remarks (while campaigning in New Hampshire) to a questioner about going to flooded New Jersey with a mop did nothing to help his public perception.
By finishing sixth in New Hampshire, Christie failed to qualify for Saturday night’s Republican debate in South Carolina, although he may have also taken Marco Rubio down with him. Christie told supporters he was heading home Tuesday night to “take a deep breath” and reassess his campaign. On Wednesday morning, leading GOP candidate Donald Trump said that he and Christie had a “long talk” about the New Jersey governor quitting the White House.
So, to Jerry Jones and Dallas Cowboys’ fans everywhere: he’s all yours now.
That loop never gets old.
