Last night, the Flyers unveiled plans for their 50th anniversary celebration next season before their bad, bad, bad game against the Anaheim Ducks. Among the highlights of the announcement were two big things: the Flyers will host an alumni game against the Penguins in the Wells Fargo Center in 2017, and they will have a 50th anniversary logo patched onto their jerseys.
In honor of the 50th anniversary of both clubs, the Flyers Alumni will take on the Pittsburgh Penguins Alumni and renew their rivalry in a special, cross-state contest next season, set to take place at the Wells Fargo Center in 2017. An official game date and ticket information will be announced at a later time.

The club also unveiled today a commemorative 50th anniversary logo that will be used for the entirety of the 2016-17 season. The mark incorporates the familiar keystone icon featured on current third jersey captain’s patches and will be featured on all game jerseys during the 2016-17 season.
Did I forget something? I forgot something. The 50th anniversary season will also be commemorated with a new alternate jersey, which will be worn “for a limited number of games.” The design will be unveiled at a later time, but the Flyers unveiled a teaser last night.
Season-ticket holders will receive a commemorative 50th anniversary jersey (one per account), “access” to the heritage nights (Captains Night, Tough Guys Night, Goalies Night and Playoff Heroes Night) and have the first chance at tickets for the alumni game.
Here are some of Ed Snider’s thoughts on the anniversary:
“It is hard to believe we are going to be celebrating our 50th anniversary,” said Flyers Chairman Ed Snider. “It feels like it was just yesterday when the National Hockey League awarded us an expansion franchise. In our first season, The Hockey News thought we would be the team least likely to succeed, but were they ever wrong! Now here we are, with memories of two Stanley Cups, the Russian Game in 1976, the 35-game unbeaten streak, the five-overtime win against Pittsburgh in the 2000 playoffs, coming back against Boston in 2010 down three games, two Winter Classics, and so many more.
“My favorite part has been sharing these moments with all of the players who define Flyers Hockey, with the hundreds of employees who work tirelessly to create a great fan experience, and with the millions of dedicated, loyal, and passionate Flyers fans who have made our first 50 years so incredible. Together we truly have something special.”
