The Phillies Are Finally Going to Wear Red Jerseys During the Regular Season

As a fan of the current Phillies color scheme, it makes absolutely zero sense they wear red jerseys during spring training but not during the season. In all honesty, red jerseys should be the team’s first alternate jerseys, not the cream colored ones (although, I’m a big fan of that design, too).

Well, the Phillies announced today on Instagram that the team will be wearing red jerseys during the regular season for the first time in 37 years!

Awesome. Amazing. I’m pumped for this season now. And we have the best crop of the top 100 prospects in Major League Baseball? I’ve gone to Heaven.

Matt Gelb says the Phillies will only wear the jerseys for six games, all mid-week afternoon games.

We’re excited to bring a new, colorful look to Citizens Bank Park this year,” said David Buck, the Phillies’ senior vice president of marketing and advertising sales. “We have great respect for the history of our uniform, so by going with a simple, classic design, we feel we’ve been able to balance a new look with our storied tradition.”

Hip hip, hooray!

I hate solid color jerseys. They look like batting practice jerseys or the jersey your dad buys your from Forman Mills for Christmas and acts like he spent a ton of money on it.
